BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey season may still be six weeks away, but if you are looking for up to the minute information on this year's squad look no further than bgsufalcons.com.
What's Returning?
•The Falcons return 62% (77-124) of their goals scored, 50% (105-210) of the team's assists and 55% (183-334) of the team's total points from last season. They will return six of their top 10 scorers, including Jonathan Matsumoto (20-28-48), James Unger (12-15-27), Derek Whitmore (13-7-20), Brandon Svendsen (10-9-19), John Mazzei (7-8-15) and Michael Hodgson (2-9-11).
• In terms of goaltending the Falcons welcome back Jimmy Spratt (4.35 gaa, .855 save %). While Spratt's overall numbers may not look all that impressive in his final five starts of the season the netminder posted a 2.75 gaa, .918 save percentage and had four 30-plus save performances.
More Falcon Tidbits
• BGSU's 124 goals last season were the most by the Falcons since 1998-99 when they tallied 126 goals. BGSU finished fourth in the CCHA and 17th in the country with a 3.26 goals per game.
• For the second consecutive season Jonathan Matsumoto is the top offensive returner for the Falcons after posting 48 points (20g 28a) in 36 games last season. In 2004-05 he led the Falcons with 32 points (18g, 14a). His 20 goals were a new career-best, while he doubled his assist mark from 14 to 28. Matsumoto could also be found in several other national categories including points/game (1.35, 12th), goals (20, T-18th), assists/game (.82, 19th), assists (28, T-9th) and power-play goals (12, 9th). With the departure of Alex Foster and Bill Thomas (UNO) to the pros, Matsumoto will be the third highest returning scorer from the 2005-06 season in the CCHA with his 48 points, behind just Scott Parse (UNO, 61 pts.) and T.J. Hensick (UM, 52 pts.).
• The Falcons took 1,203 shots for an average of 31.65 attempts per game last season. The last time BGSU had at least that many shots came back in the 2001-02 season when they fired 1,160 attempts in 40 games. The 31.65 shots per game in 2005-06 was the highest since the 1995-96 squad averaged 34.90 attempts per contest.
• This season's schedule includes 16 home and 20 road contests. Of those 36 games 11 of them will be with teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2005-06: Boston College (1), Miami (2), Nebraska-Omaha (4), Michigan (2), and Michigan State (2).
• BGSU returns 16 veterans that saw action on last season's squad and will have 12 incoming freshman, and one transfer (Tim Maxwell) that have seen no action with the Brown and Orange.
• Twenty-two Falcons notched at least one point a year ago Of those 22, 15 are returning for 2006-07.
• Fourteen Falcons reached double-digit point totals in 2005-06, one shy of the 2004-05 squad that had 15 players score 10-plus points. Of those 14 from a year ago, eight are returning for the 2006-07 season.
• Twelve Falcon veterans equaled or improved their career-highs last season. Among the top improvers that are set to return are Jonathan Matsumoto (+16 points, +14 assists), Derek Whitmore (+3 points) and John Mazzei (+2 points, +4 goals).

Josh Boyd
Pre-College: Finished the 2005-06 season with 57 points (25g, 32a) in 54 games while playing for the Portage Terriers • that same season he was named team MVP • the previous season he helped lead the same team to a regular season championship as well as a Turnbull Cup Championship, scoring 32 points (8g, 24a) in 41 games • He also helped his team to a Anavet Cup Championship. Personal: Full name - Josh Philip Boyd • was born April 27, 1986 • has one sister (Melissa) and is the son of Don and Linda Boyd • his father was a goaltender at BGSU from 1971-74 • is a 2004 graduate of Saunders Secondary School.
Tommy Dee
Pre-College: Finished this past season with 68 points (15g, 53a) in 58 games while playing for the Bismark Bobcats • his 53 assists were the second most among NAHL players • he also had 104 penalty minutes, three power-play goals, one short-handed goal and three game-winners. Personal: Full name - Thomas Patrick Dee • was born July 11, 1985 • has one brother (Matt) and two sisters (Katie and Carissa) • is the son of Patrick and Gina Dee • is a 2004 graduate of Maple Grove Senior High • is majoring in biology • has a cousin (Robby Dee) who was a 2005 draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers.
Phil Greer
Pre-College: While playing for the Santa Fe Roadrunners he compiled a 14-17-3 record with a 4.07 goals-against average and an .875 save percentage. Personal: Full name - Philip Andrew Greer • was born March 6, 1985 • he has two sisters Tiffanie and Emily and is the son of Jeff and Sally Greer • is a 2004 graduate of Arlington Catholic High School • is currently undecided in a major.
Ryan Hohl
Pre-College: Finished fourth among the Sioux City Musketeers with 36 points (17g, 19a) • he also added 158 penalty minutes, six power-play goals, three short-handed goals and two game-winners • was also elected team captain of his 2005-06 squad. Personal: Full name - Ryan Timothy Hohl • born August 31, 1985 • has two brothers (Sean and T.J.) and one sister (Meghan) • is the son of Tim and Mary Hohl • is a 2004 graduate of Northville High School • is majoring in business • his father played hockey at Ferris State.
Kai Kantola
Pre-College: This past season he posted 52 points (24g, 28a) in 52 games, which was third on his team • he also registered 116 penalty minutes, seven power-play goals and three game-winners • helped lead the Fargo-Moorhead Jets to a second-place finish in 2004-05. Personal: Full name - Kai Hannes Kantola • was born Sept. 11, 1987 • has two brothers (Krister and Ari) and one sister (Teija) • is the son of Eric and Merja Kantola • is a 2005 graduate of North High School • is currently undecided in a major.
Tim Maxwell
Pre-College: Played for the Sherwood Park Crusaders • in 2003-04 was assistant captain and scored 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points • named team MVP, best defenseman and an AJHL All-Star • during the 2002-03 season played in 56 games and notched 10 goals and 37 assists for 47 points as the team was the regular season league champions. At Maine: Recorded seven points (2g, 5a) in 11 games for the Black Bears last season. He finished the year with one power-play goal, as well as a plus-4 rating his freshman season. Todd McIlrath
Pre-College: Recorded 32 points (20g, 12a) in 33 games with the Indiana (USHL) in 2005-06 • also had 11 power-play goals and two game-winners • in 2004-05, while still with the Ice he had 41 points (13g, 28a) in 35 games. Brett Molnar
Pre-College:Led the Markham Waxers to the South Division championship game, scoring 77 points (32g, 45a) in 48 games this past season • he also compiled 108 penalty minutes, 15 power-play goals, three short-handed goals and had eight game-winners • his 77 points was eighth-best in the OPJHL • he was also named team captain and team MVP in 2005-06. Personal: Full name - Brett Anthony Molnar • was born March 6, 1986 • has two brothers (Shane and Tyler) and is the son of Carrie Carter and Rick Molnar • is a 2004 graduate of Sylvania Northview High School, where he also earned two letters in baseball • is majoring in business/marketing • his father played Baseball at Toledo from 1980-83.
Brian Moore
Pre-College: Posted 28 points (7g, 21a) in 57 games for the Bozeman Ice Dogs this past season • was the team captain of the Ice Dogs in 2005-06, the year they won the Bourne Cup Championship • also lettered in football for three years, where he played fullback and was an all-state performer his junior year. Personal: Full name - Brian Timothy Moore • was born on January 28, 1985 • has two sisters, Kim and Kelly • is the son of Sue and Tim Moore • is majoring in business pre-law • his second cousin Jeff Zgonina currently is a defensive linemam for the Miami Dolphins and played for the St. Louis Rams in 1999 when they won the Super Bowl.
Eddie Neville
Pre-College: Finished the 2005-06 season with a 22-18 record, including a 2.95 gaa and a .908 save percentage, while splitting time between Omaha and Green Bay of the USHL • His goals-against average ranked 10th, while his save percentage finished eighth in the league • he also had six shutouts, which was second-best in the USHL • was named USHL Defensive Player of the Week four separate times in 2005-06. Personal: Full name - Edward Regis Neville • was born May 27, 1985 • is the son of Walter and Terry Neville • his father played hockey at the University of Maine is a 2004 graduate of Glendale High School • is majoring in integrated social studies.
Kyle Page
Pre-College: Recorded eight points (2g, 6a) in 58 games for the Indiana Ice of the USHL in the 2005-06 season • helped lead his team to the Michigan Midget State Championship in 04-05 (Victory Honda). Personal: Full name - Kyle Alexander Page • he was born July 9, 1987 • he is the son of Debbie and Mike Page • he has one brother, Bryan • is a 2005 graduate of Walled Lake Western High School • is currently undecided in a major • his father played football and baseball at Harvard.
James Perkin
Pre-College: Posted 42 points (16g, 26a) in 64 games for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL in 2005-06 • he also finished with 60 PIM, five power-play goals and three game-winners • in 2004-05 he recorded 59 points (24g, 35a), helping the Calgary Canucks to a third-place finish • in 2004-05 while with the Calgary Canucks he was named Rookie of the Year after scoring 59 points (24g, 35a) in 62 games. Tomas Petruska
Pre-College: Played the 2005-06 season with Cleveland of the NAHL, scoring 46 points (21g, 25a) in just 34 games • was also a member of the World Juniors for Team Slovakia • In 2004-05 he scored 19 points (7g, 12a) while sharing time with two teams in the USHL.
