Hockey Announces 2006-07 Captains

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Scott Paluch and the Bowling Green State University hockey team announced today that Michael Hodgson would captain the 2006-07 season. Jonathan Matsumoto, John Mazzei, Rich Meloche and Brandon Svendsen, will be assistant captains.
Hodgson, the first junior captain since D'Arcy McConvey (2002-03) played in all 38 games last season and has played in every game in his Falcon career (74 games). Last season he finished with 11 points (2g, 9a) including a career-best three assists in a 4-0 win over Colgate.
Matsumoto finished last season with 48 points (20, 28a) and will be the third highest point scorer returning to the CCHA, behind just Scott Parse (UNO) and T.J. Hensick (UM). He scored points in 28 of 36 games last season and had 15 multiple point games. For his career Matsumoto has 80 points (38g, 42a) in just 72 games.
Mazzei, like Hodgson played in all 38 games last season. He set career-highs in goals (7) and points (15) last season while also recording his first career short-handed goal in a win over UConn. He also recorded his first-ever CCHA playoff goal in a loss to Nebraska-Omaha.
Meloche has played 96 games in his Falcon career, second most on the team. The senior finished with 10 points (5g, 5a) in 2005-06, and has 36 points (20g, 16a) in his career. He also has 115 career penalty minutes, third highest on the team.
Svendsen is the first sophomore to be named assistant captain since Doug Schueller in the 1998-99 season. Last year Svendsen led all Falcon freshman with 19 points (10g, 9a) and played in all 38 games. He finished second on the team with 141 shots and had at least one shot in 37 of 38.
Notes On The Captains:
• This is the first time in school history that five players were name captains/assistant captains. In 2000-01 four players earned the honor (Doug Schueller, Louis Mass, Curtis Valentine and Greg Day).
• The five captains played 186 of 190 games last season.
• Combined they scored 103 points (43g, 60a) last season.
