FiNDLAY, Ohio - After two long days of competition, the women's track team walked away with many positives at the Findlay Track and Field Classic. Two individuals, seniors Nicole Standback and Jessica White walked away with individual titles while many came close and turned in personal bests in their events.
"We got a lot of things accomplished this meet," said head coach Cami Wells." We haven't backed off of training yet so some girls are a little tired but overall they competed well."
Standback and White led the team with wins. Standback ran a personal best 8.16 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles and White won the 200-meters in a time of 25.22 seconds and finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds. She ran 7.13 seconds to qualify for the finals in the 55-meter dash, her new personal best in the event.
"There were a lot of positives today including Jessica White, Nicole Standback, Yemoya Marotta and Lauren Bryant," said Wells. "They all set big PR's in their events and I am very pleased."
Other notable performances included Yemoja Marotta in the 800-meters where she finished second with a new personal best of 2:19.09. Lauren Bryant set a new best in the shot with a throw of 41-10.
"There are some things we still need to fine tune including techniques for those in the jumps and throws and racing strategies for those running," said Wells.
The Orange and Brown travel to Central Michigan to compete in a quad. meet against Central, Toledo, and Northern Illinois. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
"I am really looking forward to traveling to Central Michigan next week. They are similar to Miami in that by competing against them we can grasp where we stand in the MAC. We should be able to compete well against them. I also look forward to seeing Toledo and Northern Illinois with full teams at the meet. All three schools have some great individuals so it should be a good competition for us."
