Chronister, a freshman out of York, PA. set a career best on bars (9.400) and floor (9.475). On beam she took second with a 9.575, another personal best. As a result of her second place finish, she helped her team secure a win on the road.
"Megan has been our unexpected freshman." Assistant coach Kerrie Beach said. "As a walk on we can't ask much more from her than the performances she is giving us. She has really built trust with the coaching staff and the team in practice. She is someone who works hard in practice everyday, and this carries over into the meets. There is a lot of pressure put on her for being the first person on beam, but she is consistent, and that's what we need."
Ponce, a junior out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, set another career best of 9.825 on vault, placing her in first. With this score she crushed her last week's career best of 9.750. This score also ties her for fifth in all-time vault scores at BGSU. Like Chronister, Ponce's score on beam was much needed when she stuck a 9.675 to win the event and push her team to victory.
"Jo has been a steady competitor." Assistant coach Kerrie Beach said. "We have seen a dramatic improvement in the way she handles competition this season. She is very confident and big on team commitment. This was her first year trying vault for us, and she was willing to step up and handle the pressure week in and week out."
The Falcons return to action this Saturday as they host Ball State, at 7:00 p.m. inside the Eppler Complex.
