BUFFALO, N.Y. - Andrea Vescio's goal in the 34th minute was enough to give the University at Buffalo a 1-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team Sunday afternoon (Oct. 14). The Mid-American Conference contest was held at UB Stadium.
With the win, the Bulls improve to 4-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in MAC play, while the Falcons now drop to 5-8-1 and 2-4-0, respectively.
The Falcons held a 22-13 advantage in shots, and BGSU had 11 shots on goal to the Bulls' four. But, the visitors could not solve UB goalkeeper Amy Coron, who made 10 saves and was aided by one 'team save' in picking up the shutout.
BGSU redshirt freshman Alexa Arsenault made three saves in her complete-game effort.
Vescio's goal came at the 33:47 mark. The junior took a pass from Ashley Turner and fired a turn-around shot from inside the box that found the goal just inside the far post.
"Typically, soccer games consist of just a handful of chances to score goals," said Falcon head coach Andy Richards. "Unfortunately, today we were pretty wasteful in front of goal and did not take the chances that we were given.
"That was compounded by the fact that we lacked in both quality and composure when trying to make the final pass, the final cross or the final shot. And, because of that, we failed to score. It's as simple as that.
"Obviously, we are disappointed, but we look forward to another good week of practice, and to getting after it again next weekend."
The Falcons will be on the road again next weekend, beginning with a Friday (Oct. 19) matchup at Ball State University.
