BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU Volleyball team hosts their final two home matches of the 2007 regular season this weekend, both crucial bouts in the race for the MAC East Division Championship and MAC Tournament seeding. The Falcons take on Kent State Saturday (Nov. 3) and #16 Ohio Sunday (Nov. 4), with first serve set for 4pm both days.
The Falcons are attempting to break the BG Volleyball attendance record of 1,305 set last year against Ohio on Sunday when they take on the Bobcats once again in Anderson Arena. Last year's match featured and electric atmosphere inside Anderson Arena, as the Falcons were riding a 17-match winning streak, the longest in BGSU history. Ohio claimed the first two games of the match, but BG battled back to take games three and four to force a fifth and deciding game before falling short, as their winning streak was broken and the Bobcats emerged victorious.
With Ohio again looming on the schedule, the Falcons are once again on a winning streak of sorts, as they enter play this weekend undefeated in Anderson Arena on their home court this season at 11-0 thus far. The 11 straight wins at home to start the 2007 season is good for the program's best home record since 1991 when the BG netters went 13-1 in Anderson Arena en route to the MAC Championship and the school's first NCAA appearance.
The Falcons are not only winning but dominating play in Anderson Arena, as they have held their opponents to a collective .144 hitting percentage, while the Orange and Brown themselves are hitting at a .304 clip. BG has set numerous records this season at home, breaking the record for best hitting percentage and most service aces in a three-game match recording a .553 hitting percentage and 19 services aces against Buffalo (10/6/07). Falcon Juniors Kendra Halm and Chelsey Meek also broke two records in Anderson Arena this season. Halm established a new mark for most block assists in a four game match with 11 against Central Michigan (10/12/07), and the very next match Meek set a new standard for most digs in a five-game match with 38 against Eastern Michigan (10/13/07).
