BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Kristin McDonald has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Women's Soccer Team, it was announced Thursday (Nov. 1). McDonald, named to the second team, earns academic all-district honors for the first time in her career.
McDonald maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a health science major.
A native of Troy, Ohio (Troy HS), McDonald has played in 12 matches this season to date, making one start. She has two assists on the year, coming in games vs. Youngstown State and Central Michigan. McDonald was also taken down in the penalty box, with the foul leading to the penalty kick that tied the game and helped the Falcons to a win over Western Michigan.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The 2007-08 academic year marks the seventh time a women's soccer team has been selected. Prior to the 2001-02 academic year, women's soccer student-athletes were part of the Fall/Winter Sports At-Large ballot.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards, 8-9-1 overall, have clinched a berth in the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. BGSU, 5-5-0 in the MAC to date, makes the short trip north to take on the University of Toledo this (Thursday, Nov. 1) afternoon. Following the UT match, the Falcons will play a MAC Tournament quarterfinal match on Sunday (Nov. 4), with opponent, site and start time all to be determined.
