Falcons Head to the MAC Tournament

BGSU Volleyball finished their 2007 regular season campaign 21-9 overall and 12-4 in the MAC. This season marked the Falcons second straight season of 20 plus wins and fourth consecutive winning season. The Orange and Brown finished third in the MAC East Division giving them the #4 seed in the MAC Tournament. The Falcons are set to play Kent State, the #5 seed in the third match of the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 16 at 5:00 p.m. at the SeaGate Centre.
MAC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL MATCH-UP
Falcons vs. Golden Flashes
The Falcons will face off against Kent State for the third time this season. The Falcons and the Golden Flashes have matched-up twice this season and split each winning on their home court. The two teams will now match up on a neutral court to end the stalemate with the winner moving on to the MAC Tournament semi-finals.
The Golden Flashes finished the season 20-9 overall and 11-5 in the MAC in fourth place behind the Falcons in the MAC East Division. The Golden Flashes swept Buffalo 30-19, 30-11, 30-14 (Nov. 13) in the first round of the MAC Tournament to advance to the MAC Tournament quarterfinals.
2007 Match-Ups
The first match-up between BG and Kent State took place in Kent, Ohio (Sept. 28) where the Golden Flashes defeated the Falcons, 3-1 (25-30, 30-26, 24-30, 25-30). This match marked the first MAC loss for the Falcons. The second match-up (Nov. 3) between the Falcons and the Golden Flashes went in favor of BG. The Falcons recorded their 12th straight victory in Anderson Arena with a 3-2 win over the Golden Flashes (30-23, 30-25, 31-33, 26-30, 15-13).
Bowling Green vs. Kent State All-Time Series
The Falcons lead the all-time series against Golden Flashes, 40-17. BG holds a record of 3-1 over the Kent State at neutral sites. The Falcons' one loss to Kent State at a neutral site was in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals (Nov. 21, 2000). The Golden Flashes defeated the Falcons, 3-1.
The Falcons have only matched up against the Golden Flashes twice in the MAC Tournament with a 1-1 record. The Falcons were defeated by the Golden Flashes in the quarterfinals in 2000. However, in the last meeting between the two teams two years ago in 2005 the Falcons were victorious sweeping the Golden Flashes, 3-0 in the first round of the MAC Tournament.

FALCONS IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
The Falcons will make their ninth appearance in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals as they match up against Kent State on Friday Nov. 16 at 5:00 p.m. at the SeaGate Centre. The Falcons have a record of 3-5 in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Falcons have made 11 appearances in the MAC Tournament semi-finals winning six of those matches and seven appearances in the MAC Tournament finals winning the MAC Tournament in 1991.
#2 BECOMES NO. 1 DIGGER
Junior Chelsey Meek, native of Bowling Green, Ohio might where #2 two on the court but she became number one in the BGSU record books as the best digger in Falcon history.
Once again the match against the Zips was a milestone night for one of the Falcons as Meek became the top digger in BGSU history as she recorded her 1,597th career dig in game three. Meek now holds the record for digs in season with 612 digs this season, the record for digs per game in a season with 5.61 digs per game this season, and the record for career digs with 1,607 career digs. Meek broke all of these records this season and is continuing to set new highs as the season continues. Meek is the only Falcon to amass 1,600 career digs and the second player in BGSU history to hold all three records for digs.
Meek has also broke into the MAC record books this season. Meek is currently tied with Michaele Blackburn's 2005 record for seventh in MAC history for digs in season with 612 digs this season.
FALCONS FINISH REGULAR SEASON WITH A VICTORY
The Falcons finished their regular season campaign with a three game sweep over Akron (30-24, 30-29, 30-28) for the second time this season. The victory over the Zips gave the Falcons their second straight season of 20 plus wins and fourth consecutive winning season. The victory was momentous for one Falcon in particular as junior Chelsey Meek broke the all-time BGSU record for career digs set by Susie Norris in 2003. Meek recorded her 1,597th career dig in game three of the match.
FALCON MIDDLES DOMINATE THE BULLS
The Falcons swept Buffalo for the second time this season (30-18, 30-19, 33-31) on Nov. 9. The Falcons once again dominated the Bulls out hitting them with 50 kills good for a .370 hitting percentage compared to the Bulls 36 kills for a .073 hitting percentage. The Falcons' middle blockers Kendra Halm and Stephanie Swiger owned the net against the Bulls collectively coming up with half of the Falcons' kills.
MOHR DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Junior Meghan Mohr has continued to show her versatility as a player recording her ninth double-double to close out the Falcons' regular season against Akron (Nov. 10). Mohr collected 14 assists and terminated 11 kills in the Falcons' win over the Zips. Mohr leads the Falcons with nine double-doubles this season. Mohr has recorded 10 double-digit assist performance, nine double-digit kill performances, including a career high 23 against Eastern Michigan (Oct. 13), and seven double-digit dig performances this season.
FISH SERVES UP ACES
Falcon freshman Sam Fish has not only stepped up in the setting role for the team but has also made a difference at the serving line for BG. Fish leads the Falcons with 45 service aces this season, which is one service ace away from the top ten in the BGSU records for most service aces in a season. Currently there are two Falcons with 46 service aces in a season.
HALM A WALL AT THE NET
Junior middle blocker Kendra Halm, Bucyrus, Ohio native has been a wall at the net for the second season in a row leading the Falcons and the MAC in blocking this season. Halm leads the Falcons with 135 blocks averaging 1.23 blocks per game, including a record breaking 11 block assists against Central Michigan (10/12/07), which set a new BGSU record for block assists in a four game match. Halm is now in the top ten in the BGSU record books for block assists in a season totaling 116 block assists this season thus far.
Halm has led the MAC in blocks for the last four weeks straight. In MAC conference matches alone Halm has recorded 82 blocks averaging 1.39 blocks per game.
Halm finished last season ranked in the nation's top 30 for blocks per game and was the leader for the Falcons and the MAC in blocks with 143 blocks averaging 1.49 blocks per game, which included Halm's record breaking performance in the Falcons' sweep over Toledo in the MAC Tournament semi-finals with 12 blocks, a new MAC Tournament record.
FALCONS IN MAC LEADER BOARD
The Falcons are the second best team overall in the MAC with a .244 hitting percentage only behind #15 Ohio.
The Falcons also have five individuals in the top ten in the overall MAC leader board this week.
Junior Kendra Halm leads the MAC in blocks for the fourth straight week averaging 1.23 blocks per game with 135 blocks this season. In conference matches alone Halm leads the MAC averaging 1.39 blocks per game with 82 blocks against MAC opponents. Halm is second in the MAC for hitting percentage with a .324 with 336 kills this season.
Junior Chelsey Meek is third in the MAC in digs averaging 5.61 digs per game totaling 612 digs this season.
Senior Stephanie Swiger is eighth in the MAC top ten in hitting percentage with a .290 totaling 344 kills.
Freshman Sam Fish is fourth in service aces with 45 service aces averaging 0.44 service aces per game and sixth in assists averaging 10.49 assists per game totaling 1,070 assists this season.
Sophomore Corey Domek finds herself in the MAC top ten in kills with 375 kills averaging 3.54 kills per game.
THE FALCONS DEFEND ANDERSON ARENA
The Falcons perfect season in Anderson Arena came to an end with a loss to #16 Ohio (Nov. 4). The Falcons ended the season 12-1 at home, which is the best home record for the Falcons since 1991 when the Falcons went 12-1 in Anderson Arena eventually winning the MAC and making the Falcons first NCAA appearance. The Falcons held their opponents collectively to a .161 hitting percentage while the Orange and Brown hit a .293 in Anderson Arena.
The only team in volleyball history to go undefeated in Anderson Arena is the 1979 volleyball team.
ALL-TIME SERIES IN MAC EAST
The Falcons lead all but one all-time series against MAC East opponents. The Falcons are leading Akron (24-11), Buffalo (15-1), Kent State (40-17), and Ohio (40-21). Miami (23-35) is the only MAC East division team to lead BGSU in all-times series.
