Opening Statement
"Every game is important in this league, and we didn't get any points out of the first game, so we needed to get points tonight. I thought overall it was just a tremendous road effort by our guys. We had a great bench and just a real good road attitude. The guys stayed with it and we did all the things we needed to do to give ourselves a chance to win. We played extremely well right from the first period on. We moved our feet, competed hard and though we didn't get a lead in the game till right at the very end, the guys stuck with it and got it done."
What was the bench like when you were down 2-1?
"Well though we got down 1-0 and then 2-1 later on, we were still playing pretty well, especially 5-on-5. I thought we were moving our feet and getting a lot of loose pucks and that's who we have to be. That's kind of what our makeup has to be and though we were down, we still felt pretty comfortable because we were playing pretty well."
How big was it for you guys to only take five penalties on the night, which is half of what your average coming in was?
"It was huge for us. Our team is best when we can play a lot of guys and we can go four lines and keep a lot of those guys fresh. That's when we are at our best. We saw in the Notre Dame game, we took so many penalties and the next thing you know, we got the same guys out there. We got tired and couldn't hold up in a game like that. So discipline is key for us so we can have guys moving their feet and battling for pucks."
How would you assess your power play tonight and having it work in your favor on the final play?
"Well we really want to get some consistency on our power play. We tell our guys all the time you can be 0-5 and 0-6 , but if you have an opportunity to win a hockey game on the power play and make a play; it doesn't matter and we did that tonight. It was a big win for our players."

Freshman Forward David Solway
Describe the intensity you guys came out with tonight.
"Well our coach [Scott Paluch] was preaching hard work to us all night and coming into the game. Playing against a team like this, we were just mucking and grinding down low and we had good success with their D-men down low and we just kept putting it in Riley Gill's feet and it turned out to work pretty well for us."
Could you describe the winning play?
"[James]Perkin made a nice play in the corner. Their D-man went over to help out, and Gill kicked the first shot out in front. I was just open in front of the net to tap it in."
Do you expect a lot of the same intensity tomorrow night?
"Yeah. I think it's going to be another hard-working game. Our coach really preaches hard work and we got a lot of skilled guys here too that can make plays, but I think hard work wins over skill any day and we'll have to bring the same intensity again tomorrow."
Do you think Western got a little complacent with their one-goal lead and you guys really started to take over the play?
"Probably. I think that's one of the issues playing at home. I think that being a road team, being down a goal or being tied coming down the stretch is right where you want to be in a place like this and tonight it worked out well for us."
What was it like going against Gill tonight?
"He's a great goaltender. He's great down low and you have to get the puck up and it's tough to do when you're in close. He had a great game tonight and was tough to beat."
