Volleyball Brings Holiday Cheer to the Boys and Girls of Toledo

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - `Tis the season of giving as the BGSU volleyball team gave back to community volunteering at the Toledo Children's Hospital's annual Christmas party (Dec. 5) spreading holiday cheer to all the boys and girls. The volleyball team was involved in all aspects of the party from decorating to arts and crafts with the children.
The children had a variety of holiday fun waiting for them at the Christmas party. They were able to build ornaments, get their faces painted, or get a caricature of themselves drawn. The party also included juice and cookies for the children along with a soccer ball for each of them to take home.
The volleyball team put their talents to work as they decorated before the party and then helped the children build paper Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer ornaments and Christmas tree ornaments. The Falcons weren't the only guests in attendance as Santa himself was at the Christmas party giving the children the opportunity to sit on Santa's lap and get their picture taken.
"It was a lot of fun to help with this event," said BGSU assistant coach Mark Hardaway. "Our players did a great job working with the kids at the craft tables."
"I have a lot of respect for the staff that work with these kids," said Hardaway. "Some of these kids have to work so hard to do things that we do without thinking. It was amazing. The thing that stood out the most to me was the love and support for these kids. Watching our players interact with these special needs kids was very uplifting. It brought joy to my heart every time one of them smiled. I think that we may have taken more away from the experience than some of the kids."
