Falcons Sixth After Seven Events

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving Falcons accumulated 147 team points through seven events at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Akron sits just ahead of the Falcons with 148 points. Defending champion and host Eastern Michigan began to pull away from the pack and sit atop the leader board with 257 points. Ohio (244) and Miami (196) round out the top three. Ball State (98) and Buffalo (85) are currently below the Falcons in seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Birds of Prey tallied nine top fifteen finishes in their first full day of competition.
The 200-free relay team scored early for the Orange and Brown with their fifth place finish. The team of Frankie Houck, Meg Richardson, Jen Wright and Sami Jordan swam to a 1:35.98 final time.
Alisha Yee and Caroline Keating led the Falcon scoring drive with one fifth place finish apiece. Keating was clocked at 4:57.75 in the 500-free, while Yee was the top Falcon finisher in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.17. Michael Carriaga (2:07.76) finished eleventh overall in the sprint IM event, followed by Chelsea Lopus (2:08.67) in thirteenth and Kimberly Albin (2:08.81) in fourteenth.
In the sprint free, Sami Jordan (24.25) was the top Falcon in eleventh place. Meg Richardson (24.27) touched the wall behind Jordan to take twelfth overall in the 50-free. Houck (24.32) finished fourteenth in the pack.
Both Albin and Carriaga set new Personal Bests during the 200-IM race, while Jordan, Richardson, and Houck set new PR's in the 50-free. This was the second time this season for Houck to set a new PR in the event.
Events 9-14 will be run tomorrow in the Jones Natatorium. A full schedule is listed below. Swimming preliminaries will begin at 11:00 a.m.
