BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Caroline Keating joined nineteen student-athletes on the Swimming and Diving Academic All-MAC squad as released by the Mid-American Conference office on Wednesday. She currently boasts a 3.50 cumulative GPA as an integrated mathematics major with a minor in intervention services. The senior captain was the lone Falcon to be named to the squad.
Keating is only the second Bowling Green State University swimmer to earn first team honors in both the Academic All-MAC and All-MAC categories. Bethany Budde was the first to accomplish such a feat in the 1997-98 season.
In her last meet as a Falcon, Keating recorded a fifth place finish in the 500-free, a sixth in the 200-free and seventh in the mile. Prior to the MAC Championships, Keating also posted 18 top three finishes this season winning top honors on eight occasions in MAC dual meets. Additionally, she earned top three finishes in 14-of-15 MAC solo events.
She will leave a legacy with the Falcons holding the university record in the 200-free (1:50.61) and the 500-free (4:54.25). She was also a member of the 800-free relay squad which broke the longstanding program record at the MAC Championships on Valentine's Day. Keating, Jennifer Wright, Sami Jordan and Alisha Yee had their final wall touch at the 7:30.44 mark, beating the 7:33.30 time which stood since 1993.
As a Falcon, Keating broke at least one program record in each of the last three MAC Championships.
Two-time MAC Champions Eastern Michigan led the way with five nominations, followed by Miami and Ball State with four student-athletes on the team. Akron and Toledo each placed two student-athletes on the team while BGSU, Buffalo and Ohio earned one selection.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
