BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday Bethany Kenel received women's gymnastics Specialist of the Week. This award was given to her after she helped the Falcons to victory over Ball State on Saturday, 191.425-188.925.
Kenel had a break out night on Saturday as she posted her new career best on beam with a 9.850. With this score it also places her in the record books, tying her for eight in all time BGSU beam scores. She also currently holds this season's highest beam score in the MAC. Her previous season high was 9.600, and her career best was 9.825 set last year. This is the second time she has been awarded Specialist of the Week, the first coming last season after she set her career best of 9.825.
"All her hard work finally paid off," assistant head coach Kerrie Beach said. "It was a special night for the team, with it being alumni night, so it was a perfect night for her to set a new personal best. We expect her to build on this momentum and continue to lead us."
Kenel and the Falcons return to the mats on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Central Michigan. The meet will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Orange and Brown will then return home on Sunday, Feb. 18 to host the conference leading Kent State University. This meet will also begin at 2:00 p.m. inside the Eppler Complex.
