Falcons Prepare For MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Falcons will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the Mid-American Conference Championships which are scheduled to be held February 14- 17. The Orange and Brown are 1-6 in conference dual meets, but have had several strong individual showings through out the season. Nine Falcons have scored in the top three of five or more MAC solo events this season. Alisha Yee leads the team with 20, while co-captain Caroline Keating (18), Chelsea Lopus (13) and Kimberly Albin (11) round out the top four, respectively. Every Falcon has scored in the top three at least once this season.

TOP FOUR FALCON SCORERS
Yee leads all Falcons with 20 top three finishes including a team high 12 first place touches ... she has dominated the sprint back events by winning eight solo events against conference competition ... she won at least one event in every MAC dual meet this season including a team high three against Buffalo ... the sophomore set two new personal records in the sprint back events at the OSU Invitational and posted a third place finish in Columbus ... Keating has also posted 18 top three finishes this season winning top honors on eight occasions ... she earned top three finishes in 14-of-15 MAC solo events ... she scored on three top fifteen freestyle finishes at the OSU Invite ... Lopus has had a breakout rookie season winning two MAC events while also scoring as the runner-up in an additional eight ... Lopus leads all freshman in scoring this season ... Albin recorded 11 top three finishes in the MAC with two first place finishes against Akron and Buffalo in the 200 breast ... she also has five second and four third place finishes under her belt this season ... she set a personal record at the Ohio State Invitational in the 400 IM with her time of 4:32.50 ... her PR was good enough for 11th place.
FABULOUS FRESHMAN
Each of the three freshmen swimmers have placed first in at least one event ... Lopus and Frankie Houck have each won two events while Meg Richardson has taken another ... combined, the freshmen have accounted for 28 top three Falcon finishes.
FLYING FALCONS
Ashley Belrose leads the diving corps. with eight (8) top three finishes ... she evenly split the eight top three finishes with four (4) second and four (4) third ... at Miami she finished in second on the 1-meter board after diving to a score of 162.25, just 4.6 points behind MU's Melissa Roemmele who led the event with 166.85 points ... each of the remaining divers have at least one top three scoring finish under their belt ... co-captain Jill Auer is the lone diver to have a first place finish which she earned against Eastern Michigan.
CURRENT MAC MEDAL WINNERS
Under head coach Keri Buff, six current Falcons have medaled at prior MAC Championships ... Keating leads the charge with four individual career medals ... she also has an additional relay medal ... fellow captain Brit O'Conner also has earned a relay medal as a Falcon ... juniors Jennifer Wright and Lisa Hipp also earned medals from their combined efforts in relay events ... junior Michael Carriaga and sophomore Sami Jordan each earned hardware in solo events.
SINCE BUFF'S ARRIVAL ...
Since arriving in 2003, head coach Keri Buff has led the Falcons to one medal stand (3rd; 2003) and just missed-out on the MAC hardware last season as the Orange and Brown finished fourth overall ... three records have been broken at the MAC Championships under Buff's tenure ... the 200 free relay was broke in 2005 for a third place finish ... Stephanie Buckner broke the 100 free record in 2005 when she also won the gold ... Keating has also set and broke the 500 free record at the MAC Championships in consecutive years (2005 an 2006) ... six student-athletes have also been named All-MAC while five were Academic All-MAC selections under Buff's guidance.
