Gouge Named MAC East Pitcher of the Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Junior Emily Gouge has been named MAC East Pitcher of the Week for her efforts at the USF Speedline tournament announced the conference office today. Gouge also earned the weekly honors in 2005.
The Floridian receives the award after retiring 21 batters in the five games in which she saw action in Tampa.
Gouge's USF Speedline pool play highlights include entering the George Mason game in the seventh inning to strike out two of the four batters she faced and earning her fifth win of the season in 4.1 innings over Chattanooga. Against UTC she recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one run in 20 batters. The veteran pitcher also fired pitches in to strike out two-of-three batters faced in the last inning against Florida International University.
In bracket play, she struck out 7-of-25 batters faced and allowed just three hits in a complete game against UNLV. The 3-2 decision was her sixth of the season. In the championship against Boston University, Gouge threw four K's after facing 11 batters in 3.1 innings and allowed BU just two hits.
The award is her second of the week. She was also named Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament.
The Falcons will face non-conference regional neighbor Michigan State on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in East Lansing and will open the conference season against Kent State at BGSU's Softball Field on FRIDAY at 1:00 p.m.
