For the second consecutive season Jon Erickson has been named a finalist for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The junior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, owns a 3.72 grade-point average, while majoring in finance.
Erickson played in 28 games this year, recording two points (0g, 2a). He also finished minus-3 on the year, tied for the team-best among players that play at least 20 games. He picked up his first point of the season with an assist in a 4-2 win at Providence, while also adding a helper in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota-Duluth.
The faculty athletic representative at each school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive the school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by the 12 faculty representatives. Voting is based on a system that awards five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
The 2007 CCHA Awards will be held on Thursday, March 15 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $15. The evening begins with a social hour at 7:00 p.m., followed by the presentation at 8:15 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by mailing a check or money order to: CCHA, 23995 Freeway Park Dr., Farmington Hills, MI 48335.
