NO CINCINNATI AFTER ALL
After one group of coaches and athletes made the trip down to Cincinnati at 6:30 a.m. this morning, the decision was made to return those athletes in Cincinnati and not take those scheduled to depart later in the morning.
Treacherous conditions including ice on the runway helped make the final decision so as not to put any athlete in harms way. Although there was talk about cancelling the meet altogether on Cincinnati's part, no word on whether the entire meet was cancelled.
UP NEXT
After not competing this past weekend, the Falcons are antsy to get back into action as they travel to Berkeley, Calif. to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational.
The Orange and Brown are looking for some strong performances from several individuals. One Falcon, TaKarra Dunning has qualified for the NCAA Mid-East Regional meet at the end of May and many more hope to do so in the next few weeks.
HOW DO THEY GET THERE?
Athletes must meet a qualifying mark (see page 2) sometime throughout the season to make the cut. The only other way an athlete can receive a bid to the NCAA Regional meet is to win their individual event at the conference meet so if any Falcon wins a MAC title this spring, they will automatically be qualified for the trip to Missouri in May.
BANQUET DATE SET
The banquet for the annual women's track and field has been set for Sunday, April 29, 2007. Guests will be welcomed at 4 p.m. and the program is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. Besides recognizing current Falcon athletes, three former Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) All-Americans will be honored.
PRE-SEASON POLL
The MAC released the pre-season poll and the Falcons were picked to finish tied for seventh with Ohio. Akron was tabbed to win the MAC while Western Michigan is slated to finish second.
The poll is voted on by the leagues 12 women's head coaches. The Outdoor MAC Championships will take place May 10-12, 2007, and will be hosted by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
AFTER BERKELEY
After traveling to Berkeley this weekend, the Falcons will return home and attempt a second trip to Cincinnati the weekend of the 22nd to compete in the All-Ohio Championships.
LOOKING FOR A REPEAT...or two or three....
The Falcons have a defending champions at the All-Ohio Championships in TaKarra Dunning, Jessica White, and Stephanie Hillman.
White is the defending 100-meter champion. Last year she ran the second fastest time in school history and qualified fro the 2006 Regional meet with a time of 11.58 seconds.
Last year, Dunning beat the 2006 Indoor MAC shot put champion to claim the All-Ohio shot put title with a throw of 48-06.00 to qualify for the 2006 Regional meet.
Hillman is the lone Falcon on the squad that has two All-Ohio Championship titles under her belt. In 2005 she won the 10,000-meter race (exhausting just to say...) and in 2006 she was the 5,000-meter champion? Will we see her repeat in either event or perhaps a new event? Only time will tell.
