NASHPORT, Ohio - Kari Liggett, a senior on the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, was named Mid-American Conference Sportswoman of the Year at this years' MAC Championships. Liggett is the first Falcon golfer to earn this award.
The Sportswoman of the Year award recognizes the player whom other players most enjoy playing or conversing with; has good rapport with her own team; is supportive of her own team, but also respects the competition; makes players feel comfortable to be around her; commands respect and esteem rather than merely being popular and would consider to be worthy of representing women's intercollegiate golf to others.
This award is voted on by golfers in the Mid-American Conference. Liggett finished 11th at the 2007 MAC Championships this weekend, held in Nashport, Ohio. Overall, the Brighton, Michigan native carded four solid rounds (81-81-82-76=320) en route to the 11th place finish, the top Falcon performance since Jenny Schnipke finished 3rd in 2004. In fact, the 11th place finish is the fifth-best performance by a Falcon since the beginning of the MAC Championships in 1999.
