Track Heads to Cincinnati This Weekend

UP NEXT
The Falcons travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to compete in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational this Saturday. Teams competing at the Invitational include Cedarville, Cincinnati, Dayton, Findlay, IPFW, Kentucky State, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Wayne State, Wright State and Xavier.
Events begin at 11 a.m. with the hammer throw and triple jump. Running events begin at 2 p.m. with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
This will be the first meet for the team as a whole as Jamie Roflow and Kim Settle will compete. It will also be the first track competition in over two years for thrower Liz Honegger who took the last two season off due to basketball.
RECAP
The women's track and field team traveled to two different destinations this past weekend. Two athletes traveled with coach Cami Wells to compete in the Stanford Track and Field Invite. Most of the remaining athletes traveled up I-75 to compete at the Second Annual Rocket Team Challenge.
STUNNING DUNNING
In only her second throw of the outdoor season, Dunning threw an NCAA Mid-East Qualifying mark in the shot put. The throw of 48-08.00, she not only qualified for Regionals, she set a new outdoor personal-record. Only a sophomore, this will her second trip to the NCAA Mid-East Regionals.
CALIFORNIA SUN
Kim Settle and Jamie Roflow traveled to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the 33rd Annual Stanford Invitational. Settle came away with a lifetime-best in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:44.12. Roflow, who has spent the last week battling a cold, ran the 5,000-meters in a time of 17:40.18
TWO MORE VICTORIES
Besides Dunning, the Falcons had two other victories at the Rocket Team Challenge. Andi Bunko won the javelin with a toss of 136-06. The 4x100-meter relay team of Nicole Standback, Jessica White, Ashley Spates and Shantell Lewis clocked in at a time of 47.67.
VAULTING HER WAY TO SECOND
Freshman pole-vaulter Sabrina Forstein finished second in the event, jumping 10-06.00. Forstein has been consistent in the vault for the Falcons in the ten and eleven foot range. She jumped a lifetime-best, 11-01.75, at the Indoor MAC Championships.
BANQUET DATE SET
The banquet for the annual women's track and field has been set for Sunday, April 29, 2007. Guests will be welcomed at 4 p.m. and the program is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. Besides recognizing current Falcon athletes, three former Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) All-Americans will be honored.
PRE-SEASON POLL
The MAC released the pre-season poll and the Falcons were picked to finish tied for seventh with Ohio. Akron was tabbed to win the MAC while Western Michigan is slated to finish second.
The poll is voted on by the leagues 12 women's head coaches. The Outdoor MAC Championships will take place May 10-12, 2007, and will be hosted by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
AFTER CINCINNATI
The Falcons will travel to Berkeley, Calif., to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, April 13-14.
