OXFORD, Ohio - The Falcons ended three days of competition at the 2007 Outdoor MAC Track and Field Championships Saturday and finished tied for seventh with Miami. Akron won the meet on the women's side and Western Michigan finished second.
The Orange and Brown tallied a total of 54 points for the entire meet, with 27 of them coming on Saturday. They also had one athlete qualify for the Mid-East Regional meet at the end of May. On her last throw in the discus, Lauren Bryant threw a monstrous personal-best of 159-09 to qualify, beating her previous best of 154-10. Liz Honegger also scored in the discus and threw a collegiate-best as well. She too, threw it on her last throw, going 154-07, missing the mark to qualify for the Regional meet by seven inches. This mark also puts her fifth all-time at BGSU. She knocked of Tammy Asher's 1991 mark of 157-10.
In the 100-meter dash, Jessica White, who ran an 11.91 in the prelims to qualify, finished with a time of 11.79 seconds and finished third. She missed qualifying for the Regional meet by a mere four-hundredths of a second. This also ties her best finish at the conference championships as she finished third last year in the same event. White also ran a personal-best in the 200-meter of 24.56 seconds and squeaked in to finish seventh.
White was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished sixth with a season-best 46.97. The team also included freshmen Ashley Spates and Shantell Lewis as well as senior Nicole Standback.
Jamie Roflow finished third in the 5,000-meter run. She fought off efforts by a Ball State runner and finished in a time of 17:34.73. Roflow also finished fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 10:57.04.
Kim Settle ran the steeple and claimed the bronze medal. She ran the race in a time of 10:51.83, also just missing the mark for the Regional meet.
In the long jump, junior Amanda Sefcik tied a career and season-best performance of 19-06.50, just missing the Regional qualifying mark. With the huge leap she appeared on the awards podium for the first time in her collegiate career, finishing third.
Other placers in day two included TaKarra Dunning in the shot put and Andi Bunko in the javelin. Dunning finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 48-03.25 and Bunko finished fourth, her highest in her four-year career at BGSU, with a toss of 132-06.
In day one, Bryant scored a point for the Falcons in the hammer throw. She was seeded 14th going into the event today. She slid her way into tenth to make it to finals. In her last throw, the junior let out a huge throw, going 172-04, setting a new personal best and putting herself fifth all-time at BGSU. The mark, nearly 20-feet past her previous best mark, passes Kerri McClung's 2003 mark of 160-09. Her final mark put the Falcons on the board with a pleasant, but unexpected point.
A total of three Falcons will make the trip southwest to the Mid-East Regionals in Missouri. They include, Jamie Roflow in the steeplechase, TaKarra Dunning in the shot put and Lauren Bryant in the discus.
