COLUMBIA, Mo. - TaKarra Dunning, Jamie Roflow and Lauren Bryant are set to compete at this weekend's NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships set to take place all day Friday and Saturday. The three athletes reached qualifying marks throughout the regular season to earn the trip to Columbia, Mo.
Dunning, a sophomore, makes the trip to the Regional Championships for the second straight year. She qualified in the shot put during the first to qualify for the meet, did so in the first meet of the season at Toledo. She threw 48-08.00 in the shot put on her second throw of the outdoor season to pass the qualifying mark of 46-11.00. She may have reached the mark in her second throw, but has clearly established herself as a very competitive shot put thrower, as she threw 50-02.75 at the All-Ohio Championships in April to win the event. She also finished sixth at the MAC Championships.
Like Dunning, Roflow makes her second consecutive trip to the Regional Championships, qualifying in the steeplechase this year. She did so at the All-Ohio Championships, winning the event in a time of 10:49.79. She finished fifth a this year's MAC Championships in the event.
Bryant makes her first trip the Regional Championships in her career. The junior qualified in the discus at the MAC Championships two weekends to go. On her sixth and final throw of the Championships, she let out a monstrous throw, going 159-09. She finished second and the throw improves her personal-record by more than five feet and puts her fifth all-time at BGSU.
Dunning will compete in the shot put on Friday, which is set to take place at 2:00 p.m. Bryant and Roflow will compete on Saturday with the discus set start at 3:30 p.m. and the steeplechase at 6:40 p.m.
