Lauren Hoffman Nominated for 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year Award

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference has nominated a pair of standout student-athletes, including Bowling Green State University's Lauren Hoffman, for the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year award. The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. Toledo's April Williams also was nominated for the honor.
Hoffman, a native of Napoleon, Ohio, recently completed her career with the Falcon softball squad. In her four years at BGSU, Hoffman garnered several academic honors and was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. Majoring in Integrated Mathematics, she tutored students at Bowling Green in mathematics and statistics (2004) and volunteered at St. Aloysius Elementary School's Help-A-Child (2003). Hoffman also served as a volunteer softball coach for Napoleon Girls Traveling Softball (2003-2006), for the Special Olympics Bowling (2003-2006) and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Kapp Mu Epsilon. In addition, Hoffman served as the Public Relations Chair for Kappa Mu Epsilon (2006-2007).
Academically, Hoffman received a host of honors for her achievements in the classroom. She was a two-time Recipient of James Robert & Gretchen Overman Scholarship for achievement in Mathematics, a Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges honoree, was a guest speaker at the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference, received the Mid American Conference Commissioners Award, was named to the Mid American Conference Honor Roll, was a recipient of the BGSU Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, and was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma and Kappa Delta Pi.
Williams, from Elizabeth, N.J., participated in the field events for Toledo's women's track and field team. During her tenure at Toledo Williams served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (2005-2006), the Black Student Union (2004-2007) and the Toledo Torch (2006-2007). She was also the captain for the track and field team from 2004-2007, participated in the NCAA Regional Leadership Conference in 2005 and was named to the Academic All-MAC team in 2005, 2006 for indoor track and field and 2007 for outdoor track and field.
Athletically, during her four years as a Rocket, Williams competed in the long jump and triple jump, winning the MAC title in the long jump and triple jump for indoor track and field in 2006 and was crowned the triple jump champion at the 2007 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Beyond her championship titles, Williams was named the MAC Indoor Field Event Most Outstanding Performer (2006), is the school record holder in the triple jump for both indoor and outdoor track and field, is the school record holder in the long jump for indoor track and field, qualified for 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the long jump and triple jump, and is the MAC Indoor Championship Meet Record holder in both the long jump and triple jump. In addition, she competed in the 2006 and 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship as a participant in the long jump and triple jump.
