BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program has announced the 2007-08 schedule. Head coach Louis Orr's first season at the Falcon helm will begin in his hometown of Cincinnati, and the Brown and Orange will play 13 games against NCAA Division-I competition at Anderson Arena this winter.
"We have put together a competitive non-conference schedule, one that we are very excited about," said Orr. "We start out on the road for three games in three days, and we have a total of six games in November. That will provide some good tests for us early in the season."
The non-conference schedule includes home games against a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference foes, Temple and Duquesne, and the Falcons also will welcome Morehead State, Illinois State and Eastern Illinois to "The House That Roars."
BGSU's regular-season schedule, as mentioned, begins with three games in three days (Nov. 9-11) at Cincinnati. The round-robin format will see the Falcons face Belmont, Western Carolina and UC. Both Orr and first-year assistant coach George Jackson are Cincinnati natives.
"It will be nice to see some family and friends, and it is exciting to go back home," said Orr. "We also spend a lot of time recruiting players in the Cincinnati area, so we are looking forward to playing three games in a challenging setting."
BGSU returns to Northwest Ohio to open the home schedule against Morehead State on Nov. 17, and Temple will come to town one week later (Nov. 24).
After a trip to Furman (Nov. 27) to close out the month, the Brown and Orange will continue a three-game road swing by heading to Oakland (Dec. 1) and Northern Colorado (Dec. 5 or 6). Illinois State comes to Anderson on Dec. 18, and the Falcons play at Indiana State (Dec. 22) in the final pre-Christmas matchup.
Following a break for the holidays, BGSU begins a three-game homestand, with non-conference games vs. Eastern Illinois (Dec. 29) and Duquesne (Jan. 2) before the Mid-American Conference opener against Ohio (Jan. 5).
For the second-straight season, the MAC schedule sees each school playing two games against the other five teams in its own division and one game against each of the six teams in the opposite division. BGSU's initial East Division swing sees the Falcons host Ohio, Buffalo (Jan. 17) and Miami (Jan. 23) while hitting the road to face Kent State (Jan. 12) and Akron (Jan. 20).
The six-game stretch against the West Division includes home contests against Northern Illinois (Jan. 27), Central Michigan (Feb. 6) and arch-rival Toledo (Feb. 10), along with road games vs. Ball State (Jan. 30), Western Michigan (Feb. 2) and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 13).
The Falcons host UA (Feb. 16) and KSU (March 1) as part of the final East Division swing, and BGSU will travel to Ohio (Feb. 19), Buffalo (March 4) and Miami (March 9) as the regular season winds down.
The Brown and Orange also will play a road game against an opponent to be determined on Feb. 23, as part of Bracket Buster Saturday.
"The non-conference schedule is a challenging one, and we know we will need to hit the ground running," said Orr. "Our goal is to get better every day, and we want to use the non-conference games to prepare us for the always-tough Mid-American Conference schedule."
Orr and his staff have nine returning letterwinners on the 2007-08 roster. The complete 2007-08 schedule follows. For the most up-to-date schedule throughout the season, click the 'Schedule' link on the men's basketball page, or consult the Monthly Athletic Calendar here at BGSUFalcons.com.
