BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After another four game battle the Falcons are left without the taste of victory. The orange and brown took on tournament host the Dayton Flyers this morning but fell short with a 24-30, 32-30, 24-30, 28-30 loss.
The Falcons started out by grabbing the first point of the match in game one but would never again be able to gain the lead, especially after a five point Flyer run bringing the score to 25-20. The Falcons fought strong coming within two points of Dayton 26-24 but were never able to catch the Flyers.
Game two looked vary similar with the Falcons jumping out to 2-0 until the Flyers came back to capture the lead, which they would hold for most of the game. The Falcons continued to battle back not allowing the Flyers out of their sights. With the score game point for the Flyers 29-27 the Falcons prevailed and came back with two kills from sophomore Corey Domek tying the game up 29-29. A kill by Dayton's Yvonne Marten gave the Flyers game point advantage once again but the Falcons weren't done yet and answered with a three point rally to win game two, 32-30.
Games three and four were just like the first two with the teams fighting back and forth battling for every point, however the Falcons just didn't have enough to come away with the victory.
"Wow, what a hard fought match," said Head Coach Denise Van De Walle. "Dayton is a great volleyball team that usually wins the A-10. I bet they do it again this year. They're much bigger than we are. With all that being said we were in the match. If we would have passed the ball better and got a few more first swing kills, we may have had a different outcome. We are experimenting with the lineup and running a 6-2 some of the time. We have some kinks to work out yet. One thing for sure, we need to focus on our passing. We'll be fine when we get back to passing as well as we did last year. It's early. We'll be ready for IPFW."
Despite the loss sophomore Domek still had another great performance leading the team with 15 kills along with teammate senior Stephanie Swiger tallying up 12 kills in the match. Junior Meghan Mohr once again distributed the ball on offense with 25 assists.
Junior Chelsey Meek lead the defensive strike with 26 digs followed by senior Madeline Means with 13 digs
Bowling Green looks to pull everything together and finish up the Dayton Flyer Classic with a win when they take on Indiana-Purdue-Ft.Wayne today at 5:00 p.m.
