Bowling Green Head Coach Gregg Brandon post-Western Kentucky quotes
Talk about the five turnovers forced by the BGSU defense.
"A lot of those errors we forced. [P.J.} Mahone's interceptions were great plays. We have turnover and ball security period where we work on getting the ball out and work on taking care of it. I don't think we had a turnover today. Anytime you win that battle you've got a great chance to win a football game."
What are you thoughts on playing a complete game with no turnovers?
"The penalties bother me, 10 penalties are way too many. The drive where they scored the touchdown, we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot with stupid penalties. We dominated the game and won all phases, but when we get into the MAC play and we make those kind of foolish penalty errors it is going to come back and bite us. We'll address that, our kids are playing hard and I have to assess those penalties when I evaluate the film. Our kids are playing hard and I'm not taking anything a way from that, it was a great effort."
Tell us about your running game.
"I think we got Chris Bullock going a little bit there in the second half. He's a very capable runner. I really thought when we came out to start the second half the first few drives we were in what we call our `fast ball tempo' and went down the field. I think it wore them out. They got fatigued after that and now were able to run the ball. Our size factor in the offensive line started to wear them down a little bit and allowed us to run the football there in the second half."
Tell us about the "fast ball tempo" offense
"I think it is fun to do, we just have a sequence of plays. They were in disarray, we got them to take a timeout down there in that first drive or second drive. That is the whole purpose of doing it to get them off balance and move so fast they can't get lined up."
Is there a difference in attitude on the team?
"Kids are having fun playing, winning helps but they understand why we're winning. It was an off-season of working their butts off. There is a group of seniors that are really leading and doing a great job. Some of the red-shirt juniors [Diyral] Briggs, [Erique] Dozier, and [John] Haneline, those guys are stepping and doing a great job for us. I told the team after the game that at halftime I felt like we were going to win the football game because out defense was just so dominate. It is easy to call plays on offense we you know your defense is going to stop people that is a great place for an offensive coordinator to be in. That is kind of the way I felt it was in the second half, especially after the first two fast tempo drives."
Tell us about the development of Tyler Sheehan.
"As he matures at the quarterback position, obviously he is taking care of the football. You throw it 50 times and you don't have any interceptions that is pretty impressive. That is something we will continue to stress on and work with him. I thought he did a great job, he got nicked there on the touchdown and came back and had a great second half."
What are your thoughts of Anthony Glaud's performance today?
"Anthony Glaud proved he can go in and move the team. Glaud is ready and Anthony Turner can still do some things in our system. All the kids are buying in and understand their roles and that is huge right now for this football team. There are no selfish guys everybody understands their role and why we are winning and that is important from where I sit."

Sophomore, QB Tyler Sheehan
Talk about your performance tonight.
"Coach [Mick] McCall had a great plan coming out in the second half. We wanted to play fastball, which we haven't done this year. We wanted to get everyone up to the line, in a no huddle offence to change things up. I just got the ball to the people who needed the ball."
Talk about your first game without an interception.
"Coach [Gregg] Brandon stressed all week about being consistent all game, and not having turnovers so I wanted to go out there and work on that. The first couple games I tried to take some chances on a few balls, but I have tried to learn from that and improve. It is huge when they [the opponent] have five and we have none; that's usually a good sign on who is going to win the game. We just try to be consistent, and put the ball where it needs to be put and not on the ground or to the other team."
Fifth-Year Senior, C Kory Lichtensteiger
In the spread offense that you run it makes it very easy for the defense to send guys at Tyler [Sheehan, QB], talk about providing the protection that you did.
"Our coaches did a great job preparing us for what we were going to see. Western Kentucky has a tricky defense, because they can throw a bunch of different things at you. Especially with Coach [Dennis] Springer being a former coach here [2003-2006], he knows how to attack us. I think we had a good game plan to know how to counter what they were bringing, because they were bringing some crazy stuff. Some blitzes will get you the first time, but you have to adjust and get them the second time. I think we did a good job of blocking the guys that they brought at us."
How big was it for the defense to get five turnovers?
"I just wish they would take it to the end zone instead of making us go out there. [laughs] Every time they get a fumble or an interception I am hoping that they take it in. It is huge when they do get a turnover because it helps us with momentum and field position. You cant even quantify the importance of the defense creating turnovers because it is huge momentum for us."
Red-Shirt Junior, WR Marques Parks
Talk about how easy it is for you to get open.
"First of all you have to give the credit to the offensive line for protecting the way that they did. Then with all the weapons that we have, our first option is looking for Freddie, next you look for Cory, and I am just hanging out waiting for Tyler to give me the ball. But, like I said the credit goes to the offense line because they are keeping the pressure off of Tyler and allowing him to look though his options."
Sophomore, DB P.J. Mahone
You were a running back in high school, so how did it feel to get your hands on the ball?
"It felt good to finally get the ball back."
Talk about the defense performance today.
"I think we really stepped it up. It started up front when the defensive line was putting pressure on their quarterback. He was scrambling around all day and he is pretty good in the open field. Overall I think our defense played a much better game; we played a full game this week."
Western Kentucky Head Coach David Elson quotes
Can you speak about the turnovers?
" You just can't do that against good football teams and we got away with it the last two games, against who we thought were good football teams. We just didn't think that would continue. It's frustrating because you talk about it and put an emphasis on it and we just don't get it done. We have to find better ways of emphasizing it and coaching it harder and our guys have to pay more attention to it".
What are your thoughts on K.J Black's first start?
"I thought offensively we were moving the ball and doing some good things. The two interceptions were tipped. I don't know if they were poor decisions. I'll make a judgment after I look at the game film. We got some good things going but we shot ourselves in the foot and you just can't do that against good teams like Bowling Green. K.J is a good quarterback and he will learn from the mistakes that he made and will improve on them".
Did you enter the game with high expectations?
"We have high expectations on what we want but also realize that the other team is trying to get turnovers and they have good players to. We have to balance that out defensively. That's my biggest concern; we have not got our hands on any turnovers in the last couple games. We need to change things up a bit. I don't think we did a very good job at calling plays early on, or being aggressive enough. We should have pressured them more. It's hard to put our thumb on it but we are going to keep trying, I can guarantee that. "

Red-Shirt Freshman, Quarterback K.J. Black
Tell us about losing the turnover battle
"Whenever you lose the turnover battle its not easy to win. We've been fortunate the last couple of weeks, but it bit us in the backside today."
Did the added frustration of the points off turnovers turn out to be the difference?
"Well it shows again that we can play with anybody. We have the talent on this team to play with any conference opponent on any given Satuday, but it's a matter of playing smart football and we're not being smart with the football right now."
Was Bowling Green's defense confusing you on the interceptions or was it matter of you just forcing it?
"A little of both. There were a couple of looks they showed that I didn't see on the film, so I wasn't sure what they were trying to do. Then were just a couple of balls that I tried to just force in there and tried to hard to make a play with."
Senior, Cornerback Bo Smith
Tell us about their defensive play tonight.
"It was just frustrating. They just hit us and they made plays and we didn't. That's what it came down to. We missed tackles, gave them too many chances and they executed them."
How good is Tyler Sheehan?
"He's a decent quarterback. He got the ball to his guys and they made plays. His receivers were getting a lot of extra yards after the catch and that's what killed us. So from that aspect he is a very good quarterback at reading defenses and knowing who he needs to get the ball to."
