BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University tennis team capped off a successful weekend by going 4-4 in Sunday (Jan. 13) action at the Indiana Doubles Invitational. The five-school, non-scored invite, hosted by Indiana University, was held at the IU Tennis Complex.

On the weekend, the Falcons posted a 12-8 record, second only to the host Hoosiers. IU had a 16-4 record in the two-day tourney, while Louisville (9-7), Indiana State (2-7) and Ball State (1-14) rounded out the participating teams.

The purpose of the weekend invite was to enable each coach to get a look at different doubles teams before dual-match play begins (and in the Falcons' case, dual-match play begins next weekend). BGSU head coach Penny Dean took advantage of the opportunity, using no fewer than 13 different doubles combinations on the weekend. On Sunday, eight different tandems represented the Brown and Orange in the eight matches.

Sophomore Katia Babina had a pair of Sunday wins to cap off a perfect 5-0 weekend. Classmate Samantha Kintzel and freshman Christine Chiricosta each ended the weekend with 4-1 doubles marks, with Chiricosta going 2-0 on Sunday.

Falcon duos dealt the host Hoosiers two of their four weekend losses, with both such BG wins coming on Sunday. Chiricosta teamed with junior Kelsey Jakupcin for an 8-3 win over IU's Berdala/Zapadalova team, while Babina and junior Stefanie Menoff were 8-4 winners over the Hoosier tandem of Martin and Sopel.

Dean and the Falcons now prepare for the dual-match portion of the 2007-08 schedule, beginning with two matches next weekend. BGSU will face Wright State on Saturday, with the match scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in the Toledo area. Then, the Falcons will return to the state of Indiana to face Butler on Sunday (Jan. 20).
