Time for Taylor to Take a Bow
Senior Whitney Taylor was the talk of the BGSU bench and crowd as she hit eight consecutive three pointers en route to setting a new BGSU single-game record on Jan. 16, 2008 at Kent State University ... in fact, as of the mid-point in the second half, she not only hit that eighth three pointer to break that said record, but she was also a perfect 12 of 12 from the three in MAC only games dating back to the season opener where she sank each of the four she attempted ... Taylor finished the night going 10-11 from the floor (8-9 from the arc) and finished as the game-high scorer with her 28 points ... the 20-plus point effort was the first of her career and the eighth by a Falcon this season ... BG is 7-1 when an individual player scores 20-plus points ... Taylor's 28 pts. not only match her output over nine games last season before she was forced to sit out with a knee injury, but also beats her seasonal point total during the 2005-06 season (26 pts as a sophomore) ... also her eight three's match her total from each of the 14 prior games she has played in this season ... she also had three defensive rebounds, two assists and a steal on the night ... before missing her final shot in the closing seconds of the game, Taylor was on track to become just the second player in BGSU history to have a perfect outing when taking 10-plus shots ... Michelle Terry remains as the only Falcon to leave the floor without missing a shot after her 11-11 performance versus Eastern Michigan on Feb. 14, 1996 ... in what is no surprise, Taylor leads the MAC in 3-PT FG percentages; 92-percent.
Senior Leadership
After Wednesday's win at Kent State, seniors Kate Achter and Whitney Taylor have combined to set seasonal single-game highs in eight offensive categories ... Achter takes the cake with her 32 points vs. St. Bonaventure, 1.000 field-goal percentage (6-6) vs. UT-Martin, free throws made (15, 2x), 1.000 free throw percentage (8-8) vs. Hampton, and assists (11 vs. FGCU) ... Taylor on the other hand holds the top slots for field goals made (10), three point field-goals made (8), and three point field goal attempts (9) ... each of Taylor's highs were set at KSU.
There is no I in Team
To date, four opponents have turned in individual performances of 18 point nights, while another has recorded a season high 22 versus the Falcons, yet each of those five players (and their teams) experienced losses ... in the third game of the season, Belmont's Brooke Sunday scored 18 points, with the help of a combined 33 from three other teammates, versus the Falcons in Tennessee but BG still managed to beat the Bison by 11 pts. (77-66) ... Jasmin Dixon of Chicago State scored a game high 22 pts versus the Falcons while the remainder of her team netted a combined 28 as CSU fell in Anderson Arena 80-50 (+30) ... Kara Murphy of Akron was the first of three consecutive players to net 18 and despite having another Zip in double digit scoring, Riana Miller (11), UA was handed their first conference loss, 88-56 (+26) ... vs. Ohio guards Lauren Kohn and Jennifer Poff netted 18 and 13 respective points but were sent back to Athens with a blemish on their MAC record, 60-45 (+15) ... in the M.A.C Center, KSU saw three players, including Anna Kowalska (18), in the double-digit figures but were unable to pull out a victory, 90-64 (+32) ... in their three losses, no single player has scored more than 17 points and at least four players have reached the double-digits per team.
Fabulous Freshmen
Freshman Lauren Prochaska has sketched her name into the Falcon freshman record books with her 250 points this season ... the Plain City, Ohio native surpassed former Falcons Carin Horne (220) and Megan Thorburn (212) and is ninth on the all-time rookie scoring list ... Prochaska is the leading scorer for the Falcons this season averaging 14.7 points per game, also good enough for the second best rookie effort ... she also ranks 10th in the all-time frosh category in steals (33) ... also, with her 10 blocks this season, Crystal Murdaugh has tied herself with one former Falcon on the rookie blocked shot short list and currently sits in the top ten at eighth overall ... with the addition of Prochaska and Murdaugh to the lists, eight of Miller's freshman have made their way to at least one of the all-time rookie lists.
Spreading the Wealth
In the past six wins, BGSU has seen three or more players in double-digit figures ... in fact, three or more Falcons have sunk 10-plus points 12 times this season ... they are 10-2 when accomplishing the feat ... Lauren Prochaska has posted double-digits in a team-high 16 games this season and the Falcons are 13-3 when she does so ... BG is 6-3 when she scores 15 or more ... Kate Achter has appeared on the boxscore with 10 or more 11 times while Lindsey Goldsberry and Tara Breske have done it six and eight times, respectively ... against Hampton each of the four scored between 13-17 points ... each was perfect from the foul line that night account for 17 of the Falcons 21 FT ... Breske, Achter and Prochaska have posted simultaneous 10-plus scoring nights on three occasions ... BGSU is 2-1 in those three games ... two of which, Notre Dame and Akron, took place in Anderson Arena ... the St. Bonaventure win is the only time in which only one Falcon was in the DD figures (Kate Achter, 32) ... Tracy Pontius, Crystal Murdaugh, Jennifer Uhl, Sarah Clapper and Whitney Taylor have also notched a place in the double-digit club on at least one occasion this season.
The Force is Strong in This One
After losing his first five games at the hands of one of his coaching mentor's, head coach Curt Miller has defeated a Bob Lindsay KSU squad on seven straight occasions ... Miller's team's average 74.43 points versus KSU in their wins and 84.33 over the last three ... KSU on the other hand averages 57.71 ppg in those seven loses and 60.67 in the last three outings ... Miller was an underling to Lindsay during the 1990-91 season ... in order to bring this issue to better light one can compare two numbers 201, and 348 - the number total games Miller has coached and the total number of wins Lindsay has accumulated as a head coach at Kent State University.
Soon to be 100
Saturday will mark the 100th game in which head coach Curt Miller will lead the Bowling Green State University Falcons in Mid-American Conference play ... the three-time MAC Coach of the Year holds a 69-30 record in the league and a 69.7 winning percentage.
MAC - Miller's Accomplished Conference
Since becoming a head coach in the Mid-American Conference, Curt Miller has won three regular season titles, three tournament titles and another three C-O-Y awards ... he is 69-30 all-time and has lost just four league games in the past three years ... through those three seasons, beginning with the current seniors' rookie season, he and the Falcons are 56-4 ... in the past 36 regular season MAC contests, the Falcons are 35 of 36 dating back to a win over then MAC contender, Marshall on Feb. 23, 2005 ... Miller's biggest turn around came in 2003-04 when he took a 5-11 record from the previous season (2002-03) and rearranged it into an 11-5 MAC record ... in the past four seasons he has won 11 or more MAC games ... entering the 2007-08 season, Kent State's Bob Lindsay was the only current league coach to boast a better win percentage (1990-pres.; 219-81) ... Ball State's Tracey Roller, who began her time at BSU in 2001 trailed Miller by a win and a loss (65-31; .677) at the conclusion of the 2006-07 season.
Go Big on the Road ...
Three of the Falcons top scoring outings have occurred on the road this season ... BGSU not only scored 79 points versus Hampton (Dec. 29), but they turned around the next night and scored 78 points over the Skyhawks of UT-Martin (Dec. 30) ... at Kent State (Jan. 16) BG was good for 90-points.
BGSU vs. Buffalo Quick Facts
Bowling Green has won six of their last outings versus the Bulls and have and 8-2 record overall on the University at Buffalo Bulls ... in those past six outings, UB has broke 50 points just twice ... in their only win over the Falcons (2/13/03, 72-60) Buffalo took down BG in New York making them 1-4 on their own court ... senior Kate Achter averages 9.4 ppg vs. the program and has scored below this average just twice ... after dishing a pair of assists in her freshman season, Achter has had four helpers on three occasions and eight once as a junior ... in her last outing versus the Bulls, Lindsey Goldsberry finished the night with six steals and assists, seven points and a perfect 3-3 outing from the floor ... prior to that, she notched four steals and three assists vs. UB that same season ...
