BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The second day of the Tom Wright Classic gave the BGSU women's track and field a chance to show off their depth as a team. Some new faces were seen in some events, as it gave others a chance to sit back and watch their teammates compete. The Classic was also the first event for the Falcons this season to feature the 200 meter dash, 4x800 meter relay and distance medley events. Overall the Orange and Brown had 31 top five finishes.
The BGSU throwers carried their momentum from last night into today's shot put. The Falcons took the top three spots in the event and were led by TaKarra Dunning with a mark of 14.25m. Finishing behind Dunning were teammates Whitney Hartman (13.10m) and Liz Honegger (12.93m).
The Falcons excelled in the short distance events. In the 60m and 200m dash the Falcons had five competitors placing in the top five in the two events combined. Shantell Lewis finished a close second with a time of 7.87 seconds and Brittany Johnson rounded out the top five after posting a time of 8.25 seconds. In the 200m dash Brittani McNeal posted a time of 26.08 seconds, good enough to place second. Brittany Johnson took home a fouth place finish, while Tiffany Dziak added a top five finish.
Both hurdlers for the Falcons faired well against the competition. Rachel Doughty (9.16s) finished third in the 60 meter hurdles while teammate Kristina Wilson (9.88s) added a top five finish.
All four competitors for the Falcons went home with top five finishes in the 600 meters. Lyndi Springer (1.36:73) took the top position in the event. Heather Conger (1.37:40), Danielle Thornton (1.40:64) and Hillary Hewit (1.40:67) rounded out the top five positions, finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively.
The Falcons will have their last home meet next week before going on the road. The BGSU Quadrangular will be held Friday (Feb. 8) inside the Perry Field House.
