BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey team took some time out of their busy preparations for the nation's top hockey team this weekend to entertain 48 boys and girls in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's "Have Fun, Play Hockey" clinic, which made its stop at the BGSU Ice Arena on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 3).
The free clinic for kids ages 5-11 gave children who haven't had the opportunity to play organized hockey before, the chance to be coached and mentored by their favorite Falcon players. All equipment, including skates and sticks were provided to the participants free of charge in the CCHA's effort to promote the game of hockey as part of league's Hockey Day in Michigan celebration.
The Falcon players hosted two one-hour clinics that featured one-on-one ice drills. All drills were aimed at teaching the participants the fundamentals of the game, giving them the chance to experience the same drills their favorite Falcon players participated in at the same age.
Fans can see those Falcons in action this weekend when they play host to No. 1 Miami. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Friday and 7:35 p.m. on Saturday at the BGSU Ice Arena.
