Falcons Take On the MAC West

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons now on a four match winning streak on the season and in Mid-American Conference play are undefeated (4-0) in the month of October. The Falcons will pack their bags and continue their five match road trip as they take on MAC West Division in cross-over play. The Orange and Brown with match-up against Central Michigan on Friday (Oct. 16) and Eastern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 17) in cross-over play. The Falcons lead both West Division challengers in their all-times series Central Michigan (24-19) and Eastern Michigan (27-21).

FALCONS LIVE FROM THE ROAD
For all Falcon fans that can't make it to the live action court side on the road the Falcons will be live via the internet all weekend. The Falcons' match-up against Central Michigan on Thursday (Oct. 16) will be live by visiting www.cmuchippewas.com. THIS WEEK'S MATCH-UPS
Falcons vs. Chippewas • (10/16 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Falcons will continue their five match road trip against Central Michigan ... the Chippewas are currently 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the MAC, tied for first place in the MAC West Division ... the Chippewas are on a three-match winning streak after defeating Western Michigan (3-1), Eastern Michigan (3-1) and Kent State (3-1) ... the Falcons lead the Chippewas 24-19 in the all-time series ... BG is on a four match winning streak against the Chippewas ... the Falcons defeated the Chippewas, 3-1 in their last match-up (Oct. 12, 2007) where BG owned the net on offense and defense posting a .338 hitting percentage and putting up 16 blocks keeping the Chippewas to a mere .065.
Falcons vs. Eagles • (10/17 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown will wrap-up the weekend against Eastern Michigan ... the Eagles are currently 8-13 overall and 2-4 in the MAC after falling to Central Michigan (1-3) and Ohio (2-3) ... the Falcons lead the Eagles 27-21 in the all-times series ... the last match-up between the two teams was Oct. 13, 2007 in a marathon match lasting two hours where the Falcons defeated the Eagles, 3-2 ... during the match Chelsey Meek set a new BGSU record for digs in a five game match and a career high with 38 digs.
NUMBER "2" THOUSAND & MAC EAST POW
The number two is magical for Bowling Green, Ohio native Chelsey Meek who was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week (Oct. 13). She not only wears number two on the court but multiplied it by a thousand to become the first Falcon in program history to ever record 2,000 career digs. Meek recorded her 2,000th dig in the Falcons, 3-1 win over Buffalo (Oct. 11).
Meek, currently ranked 22nd in nation for digs, led the Falcons to victories over MAC East Division opponents Akron (3-2) and Buffalo (3-1) totaling 49 digs on the weekend averaging an impressive 5.44 digs per set. She not only holds the BGSU career record with 2,022 digs but is also now fifth in the MAC all-time record books for career digs. She currently leads all active players in the nation in consecutive matches recording 10-plus digs as she extended her streak to 77 matches this past weekend, she is only three matches away from tying the all-time record (80).
FALCON BIG GUNS
The Falcon offensive attack is led by three big guns, Kendra Halm, Meghan Mohr and Corey Domek. All three of the Falcons are on a double-digit kill performance streak with Domek leading the way recording double-digits kills in the last seven matches, Mohr is on a four match double-digit kill streak, while Halm has recorded three straight matches of double-digits kills. Combined the three big guns have recorded 695 kills this season thus far, over two-thirds of the Falcons' kills.
"FALCON-TOBER"
The month of October has been a successful month for Head Coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons. The Falcons have posted a 144-105 record in month of October since 1983 with a .578 winning percentage. The Orange and Brown have opened the month of October with a victory for the last three years in a row. Last year the Falcons opened October with a sweep over IPFW which led to an 8-1 record for the month of October, the second straight year the Falcons have only lost one match in October. The Falcons opened October this season with a victory over the Bobcats, BG's first win in 12 matches against Ohio. The Falcons are undefeated (4-0) in the month of October.
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons own seven of 11 all-time series records against Mid-American Conference opponents. BG leads four of the five MAC East division opponents including Akron (25-11), Buffalo (16-1), Kent State (41-18) and Ohio (41-21). The only East division foe that leads the Falcons is Miami (23-36). In cross-over play the Falcons lead three of the six West opponents, including Central Michigan (24-19), Eastern Michigan (27-21) and Toledo (47-12). Ball State (14-34), Northern Illinois (8-20) and Western Michigan (16-31) all lead the Falcons.
FISH REELS IN DOUBLE-DIGITS
Sam Fish has reeled in five double-doubles this season all of which have come during MAC play, including four consecutive matches of double-double performance (Oct. 3, 4, 10 & 11). Fish recorded her first double-double of the season in the Falcons' MAC opener against Miami (Sept. 25). She dished out 38 assists while also recording 11 digs. Fish has ran the offense in all 20 of the Falcons matches this season thus far recording double-digit assist performances in every match with a season high of 51 three times.
"MOHR" DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Meghan Mohr continues to double-up for the Falcons on offense and defense. Mohr has recorded six double-doubles on the season thus far. During the Best Western Invitational she recorded double-doubles in back-to-back matches. Mohr first posted 11kills and 11 digs against Binghamton in the 2008 season opener, followed by 17 kills and 13 digs against Rice recording her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
MEEK CONTINUES TO DIG HER WAY TO THE TOP OF THE NATION
Senior libero Chelsey Meek, continues to dig her way to the top of the nation, now the 22nd ranked player in the nation in digs. Meek leads the Falcons and is second in the MAC with 398 digs, averaging 4.97 digs per set. Meek earned her third consecutive All-Tournament honors at the Best Western Invitational after leading the Falcon defense with 66 digs, averaging 6.60 digs per set. Meek has led the Falcon defense the entire season thus far posting double-digit dig performances in all 20 of the Falcons' matches, including 10 matches with 20-plus digs with a season high 28 twice. Meek also is said to have the longest streak of consecutive matches with 10-plus digs a match of all current active players, with a streak of 77 matches. Her 77 match streak of 10-plus digs a match is also said to be the second longest streak in nation's all-time history.
"DOM" THE BOMB
Corey Domek blew up her form career high 22 kills against Miami in the Falcons' 2008 MAC opener against Miami (Sept. 25). Domek terminated a new career high 24 kills posting a .342 hitting percentage against the RedHawks.
FALCONS KNOCK OFF EAST DIVISION RIVALS OHIO AND KENT STATE
The Falcons, now tied for second in the Mid-American East Division knocked off two East Division rivals Oct. 3 and Oct 4. The Falcons opened the BGSU Homecoming weekend and the month of October with a 3-2 (25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 13-25, 15-13), victory over the Ohio Bobcats (Oct. 3). The two-plus hour battle marked the Falcons first win over the Bobcats in the past 12 match-ups between the East Division opponents. The Falcons picked up their first win in MAC play and gave the Bobcats their first loss in MAC play. The Orange and Brown came back the very next night for another tough battle defeating Kent State, 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 22-25, 15-5), extending their winning streak against the Golden Flashes in Anderson Arena to five matches.
