BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
Coach Brandon Audio
Bowling Green State University football head coach Gregg Brandon had a busy day with the media this afternoon (Oct. 6). Here are some of his thoughts.
On watching game film
"There were a lot of untimely mistakes, namely some penalties on the offense. False starts really kill drives and didn't allow us to get drives started. Just stupid little things that as a veteran team we can't be doing. We were very undisciplined Saturday, which results in inconsistent performance. That's who we were Saturday, and that hadn't been showing up as bad as it did Saturday."
On possibility of personnel changes
"That was probably a knee-jerk reaction to the game. You lose a tough one like that at home, and you want to start blaming people. The kids played hard, and we had a chance at the end to win the game. That's the thing, you say, it's Eastern Michigan, so what. It's a MAC team and at the end of the game, we had a chance to win the game and we didn't get it done. They made one more play than we did. I told the kids in the locker room after the game, every game we play the rest of the way is going to be like that one. They're going to be tough, physical games that may come down to a play or two at the end of the game, unless we can get some turnovers. That's the one thing we didn't do Saturday that probably could have helped us."
On what was said to the team to bounce back this week
"We've got to understand that in preparation it doesn't matter what that team looks like on film, they're going to bring their A game every time they play Bowling Green because we were picked to win the East. We've had the bulls-eye on our chest. We're one of the top programs in the MAC, and everybody wants to beat Bowling Green. It seems like when somebody does knock us off, it's a career win for the guy or the program, and that's the way it is. Our guys need to understand that. It doesn't matter who we play we've got to show up with the same intensity if we're playing Pitt or Boise or whomever in this league. The difference is, in the MAC, there is familiarity because you see the teams year-in and year-out. They've got a book on you, you've got a book on them. It's not like going out to Wyoming, where you don't know anything about them."
