Falcons Hit the Road to Travel the MAC East

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After continuing their history of success in the month of October by defeating MAC East Division rivals, Ohio and Kent State, the Falcons will pack their bags and hit the road for a five match road stint starting off traveling the MAC East this weekend. The Orange and Brown will match-up against Akron on Friday (Oct. 10) at 7:00 p.m. and then against Buffalo on Saturday (Oct. 11) at 7:00 p.m.

FALCONS LIVE FROM THE ROAD
For all Falcon fans that can't make it to the live action court side this weekend on the road the Falcons will be live via LiveStats all weekend. THIS WEEK'S MATCH-UPS
Falcons vs. Zips • (10/10 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Falcons will start their five match road stint against East Division opponent Akron ... the Zips are currently 7-8 overall and 1-3 in the MAC ... this past weekend in MAC play the Zips swept Buffalo (3-0) but fell to Toledo (1-3) ... the Falcons lead the Zips 24-11 in the all-time series and 11-5 in the series on the road ... the Orange and Brown are on an eight match winning streak against the Zips and have only lost four of the last 14 meetings ... BG swept Akron winning both match-ups last season, the last match between the two teams was the Falcons' final match of last year's regular season (Nov. 10) where the Falcons swept the Zips (3-0) ... the match was especially momentous for one Falcon in particular as Chelsey Meek broke the BGSU record for career digs..
Falcons vs. Bulls • (10/11 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown will continue the MAC weekend against Buffalo ... the Bulls are currently 5-13 overall and 0-4 in the MAC after falling to Akron (0-3) and Ball State (1-3) this past weekend ... the Falcons lead the Bulls 15-1 in the all-time series and 6-1 in the series on the road ... the Falcons are on a six match winning streak against the Bulls with their only loss to Buffalo taking place on Oct. 2003 when the Falcons lost the match in five sets ... the Falcons swept the Bulls last season winning both matches ... the last meeting between the two teams was (Nov. 9) when the Falcons swept the Bulls (3-0) as BG out hit Buffalo 50 kills (.370) to 36 kills (.073).
FALCONS KNOCK OFF EAST DIVISION RIVALs OHIO AND KENT STATE
The Falcons, now tied for second in the Mid-American East Division knocked off two East Division rivals Oct. 3 and Oct 4. The Falcons opened the BGSU Homecoming weekend and the month of October with a 3-2 (25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 13-25, 15-13), victory over the Ohio Bobcats (Oct. 3). The two-plus hour battle marked the Falcons first win over the Bobcats in the past 12 match-ups between the East Division opponents. The Falcons picked up their first win in MAC play and gave the Bobcats their first loss in MAC play. The Orange and Brown came back the very next night for another tough battle defeating Kent State, 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 22-25, 15-5), extending their winning streak against the Golden Flashes in Anderson Arena to five matches.
"FALCON-TOBER"
The month of October has been a successful month for Head Coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons. The Falcons have posted a 142-105 record in month of October since 1983 with a .575 winning percentage. The Orange and Brown have opened the month of October with a victory for the last three years in a row. Last year the Falcons opened October with a sweep over IPFW which led to an 8-1 record for the month of October, the second straight year the Falcons have only lost one match in October. The Falcons opened October this season with a victory over the Bobcats, BG's first win in 12 matches against Ohio.
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons own seven of 11 all-time series records against Mid-American Conference opponents. BG leads four of the five MAC East division opponents including Akron (24-11), Buffalo (15-1), Kent State (40-18) and Ohio (41-21). The only East division foe that leads the Falcons is Miami (23-36). In cross-over play the Falcons lead three of the six West opponents, including Central Michigan (13-8), Eastern Michigan (27-21) and Toledo (47-12). Ball State (14-34), Northern Illinois (8-20) and Western Michigan (16-31) all lead the Falcons.
THE RACE FOR 2K
Senior Chelsey Meek is in the race to become the first Falcon to ever record 2,000 career digs. Meek currently has 1,973 career digs only 27 shy of 2,000. She currently holds the BGSU career record for digs and continues to add to her massive count. Meek is also currently ranked sixth in the MAC career record books 300 digs shy of the MAC record (2,273).
FISH REELS IN DOUBLE-DIGITS
Sam Fish has reeled in three double-doubles in the season all of which have come during MAC play, including back-to-back matches of double-double performance (Oct. 3 & 4). Fish recorded her first double-double of the season in the Falcons' MAC opener against Miami (Sept. 25). She dished out 38 assists while also recording 11 digs. Fish has ran the office in all 18 of the Falcons matches this season thus far recording double-digit assist performances in every match with a season high of 51 three times.
"MOHR" DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Meghan Mohr continues to double-up for the Falcons on offense and defense. Mohr has recorded five double-doubles on the season thus far. During the Best Western Invitational she recorded double-doubles in back-to-back matches. Mohr first posted 11kills and 11 digs against Binghamton in the 2008 season opener, followed by 17 kills and 13 digs against Rice recording her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
MEEK CONTINUES TO DIG HER WAY TO THE TOP IN THE NATION
Senior libero Chelsey Meek, continues to dig her way to the top of the nation, now the 26th ranked player in the nation in digs. Meek leads the Falcons and is second in the MAC with 349 digs, averaging 4.92 digs per set. Meek earned her third consecutive All-Tournament honors at the Best Western Invitational after leading the Falcon defense with 66 digs, averaging 6.60 digs per set. Meek has led the Falcon defense the entire season thus far posting double-digit dig performances in all 18 of the Falcons' matches, including eight matches with 20-plus digs with a season high 28 twice. Meek also is said to have the longest streak of consecutive matches with 10-plus digs a match of all current active players, with a streak of 75 matches. Her 75 match streak of 10-plus digs a match is also said to be the second longest streak in nation's all-time history.
"DOM" THE BOMB
Corey Domek blew up her form career high 22 kills against Miami in the Falcons' 2008 MAC opener against Miami (Sept. 25). Domek terminated a new career high 24 kills posting a .342 hitting percentage against the RedHawks.
FALCONS KEEP HOME OPENER WINNING STREAK ALIVE
The Falcons kept their home opener winning streak alive as they swept the Binghamton Bearcats in the 2008 home opener, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-19). The Falcons extended their home opener winning streak to nine matches.
BACK-TO-BACK TOURNAMENT CHAMPS
The Falcons won back-to-back tournaments for the first time in eight years after winning the Temple Invitational (Sept. 5-6) and the Marquette Challenge (Sept. 12-13). The Falcons have won two consecutive tournaments twice in program history and three straight tournaments once in 1990.
FALONS ARE TOP BIRD AT MARQUETTE CHALLENGE
The Bowling Green State University netters were crowned the Marquette Challenge Champions and the top bird as they defeated the Phoenix (Green Bay), the Owls (Temple) and the Golden Eagles (Marquette). In a come from behind win; the Orange and Brown defeated Marquette, 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-13) to go undefeated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Falcons won their second tournament crown in two weeks, while the BG senior trio also earned All-Tournament honors for the second consecutive weekend. Kendra Halm once again was named the MVP of the tournament with fellow seniors Meghan Mohr and Chelsey Meek named to the All-Tournament team.
ALL-TOURNAMENT FALCONS
As the Falcons won their second tournament crown in two weeks, the BG senior trio also earned All-Tournament honors for the second consecutive weekend. Kendra Halm once again was named the MVP of the tournament with fellow seniors Meghan Mohr and Chelsey Meek named to the All-Tournament team. Halm and Shari Luther were also named to the FSU Invitational All-Tournament Team during the Falcons opening weekend.
THE HALM-INATOR TERMINATES 1,000
Senior middle blocker Kendra Halm became the 14th Falcon in program history to record 1,000 career kills. Halm terminated her 1,000th career kill in the Falcons sweep, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-18) over the Oakland Grizzles (Sept. 9).
