Falcons Set to Battle Chippewas in Quarterfinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After defeating #12 Buffalo (3-1) in the first round of the MAC Tournament the #5 Falcon volleyball team will battle the #4 Central Michigan Chippewas in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday (Nov. 21) at 11:00 a.m. at the SeaGate Centre. The Falcons finished the 2008 regular season campaign 23-8 overall and 12-4 in the Mid-American Conference. This season marked the third straight season of 20-plus wins and fifth consecutive winning season for head coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons.

MAC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL MATCH-UP
Falcons vs. Chippewas • (11/21 • 11:00 a.m.)
The #5 Falcons will battle the #4 Chippewas in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals ... the Chippewas are currently 19-10 overall and 12-4 in the MAC, with a second place regular season finish in the MAC West Division ... the Chippewas finished the regular season with a 1-1 week as they swept Eastern Michigan (3-0) and fell to Ohio (2-3) ... the Falcons lead the Chippewas 24-20 in the all-time series ... the last meeting between the two team was earlier this season as the Falcons fell to the Chippewas (0-3) on the road.

The Falcons are 3-0 against Central Michigan in MAC Tournament history but have never met the Chippewas in the quarterfinals.
FALCONS IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
The Falcons will make their 10th appearance in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals with an overall record of 3-6. The Falcons defeated Buffalo (Nov. 18) in their third appearance in the first round of the MAC Tournament now with an overall record of 3-1 in the first round of the tournament.
FALCONS DOWN BULLS. 3-1 IN FIRST ROUND OF MAC TOURNAMENT
Bowling Green State University volleyball head coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons downed the Buffalo Bulls, 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-14) Tuesday (Nov. 18) to move onto the Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinals. The Falcons' continued their history of dominating Buffalo recording their third win of the season and ninth straight win over the Bulls, remaining undefeated 11-0 against them in Anderson Arena.
MEEK CHASES DOWN MAC HISTORY
Falcon libero Chelsey Meek has amassed 2,246 career digs hundreds of digs past the former BGSU record as she became the first Falcon to record 2,000 career digs. Meek continues to chase down history this time on the heels of the Mid-American Conference career dig record, 2,273 digs held by Stephanie Keller from Ball State. Meek is only 27 digs shy of tying the record entering the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
MEEK NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Senior libero Chelsey Meek was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Women's Volleyball third team, announced by CoSIDA (Nov. 6). Meek is one of three Mid-American Conference players to earn Academic All-District honors this season. The Bowling Green, Ohio native is an early childhood education major with a 3.82 GPA. Meek is currently ranked 27th in the nation and second in the MAC in digs compiling a team high 568 digs averaging 4.98 digs per set this season thus far.
FALCON NETTERS ROLL ALONG WITH 20 W'S
The Falcon netters have won seven of their last eight matches including their sweep over Miami (Oct. 30) and five set win over Western Michigan (Nov. 1). The Falcons victory over the Broncos marked their 20th win of the season and third straight season of 20-plus wins. The Orange and Brown have won 14 of their last 16 matches with a 24-8 overall record.
89 AND COUNTING...
Chelsey Meek set a new record as she posted her 81st consecutive match of 10-plus digs with 25 digs against Ball State (Oct. 24), now the longest streak of all-time in nation as well as the longest streak of any active player. Meek has continued to extend her streak now with 89 consecutive matches of 10-plus digs after picking up 15 digs as the Falcons defeated Buffalo (Nov 18) in the first round of the MAC Tournament.
FALCON BIG GUNS
The Falcon offensive attack is led by three big guns, Kendra Halm, Meghan Mohr and Corey Domek. Halm has recorded 22 matches of double-digits kills, including a 10-match double-digit kill streak as well as back-to-back double-digit kill performances last weekend against Buffalo and Akron. Mohr has recorded double-digit kills in 20 matches, including a 10-match double-digit kill streak and is currently on a two-match streak of double-digit kills. Domek has recorded 20 matches of double-digits kills and is currently on a three-match streak of double-digit kills. Combined the three big guns have recorded 1,110 kills this season thus far, over two-thirds of the Falcons' kills.
FALCONS HONOR SENIOR TRIO
The Falcons honored the senior trio Meghan Mohr, Chelsey Meek and Kendra Halm, as they end the `08 campaign with a sweep over Buffalo Saturday (Nov. 15) in the last home match of the season. Mohr, Meek and Halm are one of the most decorated senior classes in program history with an overall record of 86-38 (.694), including four winning seasons and three consecutive 20-plus win seasons. Combined they have also accumulated 12 All-Tournament selections including two MVPs, six MAC East Division Player of the Week awards, three All-MAC honors, two Academic All-MAC honorees, one Freshmen All-MAC squad member and one ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honoree.
"MOHR" DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Meghan Mohr continues to double-up for the Falcons on offense and defense. Mohr has recorded 10 double-doubles on the season thus far. During the Best Western Invitational she recorded double-doubles in back-to-back matches. Mohr first posted 11 kills and 11 digs against Binghamton in the 2008 season opener, followed by 17 kills and 13 digs against Rice recording her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season. Mohr has recorded double-doubles in two of the last three matches on the season including her most recent against Buffalo in the first round of the MAC Tournament terminating a match high 18 kills and dishing out 10 assists.
FISH REELS IN DOUBLE-DIGITS
Sam Fish has reeled in nine double-doubles this season all of which have come during MAC play, including four consecutive matches of double-double performances (Oct. 3, 4, 10 & 11). Fish recorded her first double-double of the season in the Falcons' MAC opener against Miami (Sept. 25). She dished out 38 assists while also recording 11 digs. Fish has ran the offense in all 32 of the Falcons matches this season thus far recording double-digit assist performances in every match with a season high of 59 in the Falcons win over the Broncos.
Kendra Halm STUFFIN'
With Thanksgiving a month a way Kendra Halm got into the spirit early this year as she stuffed yet another hitter to record her 414th career block assist setting a new BGSU career record. Halm has amassed 439 career block assists surpassing Lori Kemerer (1996-99) and Lisa Mika (1988-91), whom previously held the BGSU record with 413 block assists.
MEEK CONTINUES TO DIG HER WAY TO THE TOP OF THE NATION
Senior libero Chelsey Meek, continues to dig her way to the top of the nation, now the 25th ranked player in the nation in digs. Meek leads the Falcons and is second in the MAC with 607 digs, averaging 5.02 digs per set. Meek earned her third consecutive All-Tournament honors at the Best Western Invitational after leading the Falcon defense with 66 digs, averaging 6.60 digs per set. Meek has led the Falcon defense the entire season thus far posting double-digit dig performances in all 32 of the Falcons' matches, including 15 matches with 20-plus digs with a season high 28 three times.
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons own seven of 11 all-time series records against Mid-American Conference opponents. BG leads four of the five MAC East division opponents including Akron (26-11), Buffalo (18-1), Kent State (42-18) and Ohio (41-22). The only East division foe that leads the Falcons is Miami (24-36). In cross-over play the Falcons lead three of the six West opponents, including Central Michigan (24-20), Eastern Michigan (28-21) and Toledo (48-12). Ball State (15-34), Northern Illinois (8-20) and Western Michigan (17-31) all lead the Falcons.
