Falcons Hit the Road for a MAC East Showdown

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons will pack their bags and hit the road for a MAC East showdown facing Kent State and Ohio in their last road trip of the regular season. The Falcons are coming off of one of their best weeks of the season after defeating MAC Division leaders, Miami 3-0 (East) and Western Michigan 3-2 (West) in back-to-back matches, now in a three-way tie for first in the East Division. The Falcons will match-up against Kent State on Friday (Nov. 7) at 7:00 p.m and then face off against Ohio on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 7:00 p.m.

FALCONS LIVE ON THE ROAD

THIS WEEKEND'S MATCH-UPS
Falcons vs. Golden Flashes • (11/7 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Falcons will start of the weekend against East Division opponent, Kent State ... the Golden Flashes are currently 13-12 overall and 3-9 in the MAC after dropping two matches last week ... the Golden Flashes fell to Akron (0-3) and Buffalo (0-3) ... the Falcons lead the Golden Flashes 41-18 in the all-time series and 14-11 on the road ... the last meeting between the two teams was earlier in the season when the Falcons defeated Kent State, 3-2 Oct. 3).
Falcons vs. Bobcats • (11/8 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown will wrap-up their last road trip of the regular season in a MAC East showdown against the Bobcats ... the Falcons and Bobcats are both tied for first in the East with Miami ... the Bobcats are currently 16-7 overall and 9-3 in the MAC ... the Bobcats are coming off of a 2-0 week downing Buffalo (3-2) and Akron (3-0) ... the Falcons lead the Bobcats in the all-time series 41-21 and 14-11 on the road ... the last meeting between the two teams was a two-plus hour battle earlier this season at Anderson Arena, which marked the Falcons first win (3-2) over the Bobcats in the past 12 match-ups.
ONE GRAND AND MAC POW
Corey Domek was named MAC East Division Player of the Week after helping the Falcons to back-to-back wins over both the MAC East and West Division leaders, Miami and Western Michigan. This is Domek's first career MAC East POW selection. Domek terminated a team high 33 kills averaging 4.00 kills per set and posting a .333 hitting percentage on the week, much higher than her average hitting percentage in MAC play (.243). She led the Falcons in a come from behind win over MAC leader, WMU with a career and match high 25 kills, a .380 hitting percentage and a 50 percent kill ratio (25 kills in 50 attempts). Domek's spectacular performance at the net against the Broncos also included a career milestone as she terminated her 1,000th career kill to end the fourth set for the Falcons, becoming the 15th player in BGSU history to accomplish such a feat. Domek then went on to have a perfect performance in the fifth set pounding six kills with no errors in 11 attempts hitting an impressive .600. She also complied a team high 33.5 points, three blocks, two assists and a dig on the week.
THE RACE FOR THE MAC EAST
The race for the MAC East Division grew even closer as the Falcons defeated Miami, 3-0 (Oct. 30) to create a three way tie for first in the East. BG, Miami and Ohio are all currently 9-3 in the MAC with only a handful of matches left in the regular season. The Falcons and the RedHawks are both set to take on the Bobcats in one of the most crucial weekends in the East, which may determine the MAC East Division Champion.
FALCONS KNOCK OF THE LEADERS OF THE MAC
The Falcons had one of their best weeks of the season defeating MAC Division leaders, Miami 3-0 (East) and Western Michigan 3-2 (West) in back-to-back matches. The Falcons not only defeated both teams but also held Miami (.143) and WMU (.199) to their lowest hitting percentages in MAC play, well below their season (MU .239, WMU .245) and conference averages (MU .249, WMU .251). BG posted two impressive hitting percentages with a season high .411 against Miami and .303 against WMU, both well above Miami's and WMU's average opponent hitting percentage. The Orange and Brown started off the week with a sweep over the RedHawks to create a three way tie for first in the East Division. The Falcons then came back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat the Broncos, 3-2 as junior Corey Domek recorded a career and match high 25 kills, which included her 1,000th career kill becoming the 15th member of the BGSU 1,000 kill club.
FALCON NETTERS ROLL ALONG WITH 20 W'S
The Falcon netters are now on a six-match winning streak with their sweep over Miami (Oct. 30) and five set win over Western Michigan (Nov. 1). The Falcons victory over the Broncos marked their 20th win of the season and third straight season of 20-plus wins. The Orange and Brown have won 10 of their last 11 matches.
FALCON OFFENSE CRUSHES REDHAWKS, 3-0
The Falcons' offense was firing on all cylinders as they crushed the Miami RedHawks, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) Thursday evening (Oct. 30). The BGSU netters hosted Pack the House, Pink Out Night, to help create awareness for breast cancer and gave nearly 700 fans a spectacular match to watch. The Falcons' posted a season high .411 hitting percentage averaging 16 kills per set three kills more than their season average while stifling the RedHawk offense posting a .143 hitting percentage, their fourth lowest of the season and lowest in the MAC play, way below their .239 season average.
FISH REELS IN DOUBLE-DIGITS
Sam Fish has reeled in seven double-doubles this season all of which have come during MAC play, including four consecutive matches of double-double performance (Oct. 3, 4, 10 & 11) and is currently on a two-match double-double streak. Fish recorded her first double-double of the season in the Falcons' MAC opener against Miami (Sept. 25). She dished out 38 assists while also recording 11 digs. Fish has ran the offense in all 27 of the Falcons matches this season thus far recording double-digit assist performances in every match with a season high of 59 in the Falcons win over the Broncos.
SHARP SHOOTIN' SHARI
Sophomore Shari Luther picked apart the RedHawks in the Falcons' sweep on Oct. 30 as she posted a perfect performance at the net with nine kills and no errors in 15 attempts good for a career high .600 hitting percentage. She was also a weapon at the net on defense leading the Falcons with six blocks. Luther came right back against the Broncos posting yet another perfect performances with seven kills and no errors in 16 attempts also leading the Falcons with four blocks.

With Thanksgiving a month a way Kendra Halm got into the spirit early this year as she stuffed yet another hitter to record her 414th career block assist setting a new BGSU career record. Halm has amassed 423 career block assists surpassing Lori Kemerer (1996-99) and Lisa Mika (1988-91), whom previously held the BGSU record with 413 block assists.
Meghan Mohr continues to double-up for the Falcons on offense and defense. Mohr has recorded eight double-doubles on the season thus far. During the Best Western Invitational she recorded double-doubles in back-to-back matches. Mohr first posted 11 kills and 11 digs against Binghamton in the 2008 season opener, followed by 17 kills and 13 digs against Rice recording her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
Senior libero Chelsey Meek, continues to dig her way to the top of the nation, now the 30th ranked player in the nation in digs. Meek leads the Falcons and is second in the MAC with 534 digs, averaging 4.99 digs per set. Meek earned her third consecutive All-Tournament honors at the Best Western Invitational after leading the Falcon defense with 66 digs, averaging 6.60 digs per set. Meek has led the Falcon defense the entire season thus far posting double-digit dig performances in all 27 of the Falcons' matches, including 13 matches with 20-plus digs with a season high 28 twice.
The Falcon offensive attack is led by three big guns, Kendra Halm, Meghan Mohr and Corey Domek. Halm has recorded 20 matches of double-digits kills, also including a 10-match double-digit kill streak as well as terminating double-digits in seven of the last 10 matches. Mohr has recorded double-digit kills in 18 matches, including a 10-match double-digit kill streak and is currently on a four-match streak of double-digit kills. Domek has recorded 17 matches of double-digits kills. Combined the three big guns have recorded 924 kills this season thus far, over half of the Falcons' kills.
The month of October has been a successful month for Head Coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons. The Falcons have posted a 150-106 record in month of October since 1983 with a .586 winning percentage. The Orange and Brown have opened the month of October with a victory for the last three years in a row. Last year the Falcons opened October with a sweep over IPFW which led to an 8-1 record for the month of October. The Falcons opened October this season with a two-plus hour battle, which marked the Falcons first win over the Bobcats in the past 12 match-ups between the East Division opponents. The Falcons recorded their third straight successful October with only one loss (9-1) finishing the month with a crucial sweep over Miami (Oct. 30).
The Falcons own seven of 11 all-time series records against Mid-American Conference opponents. BG leads four of the five MAC East division opponents including Akron (25-11), Buffalo (16-1), Kent State (41-18) and Ohio (41-21). The only East division foe that leads the Falcons is Miami (24-36). In cross-over play the Falcons lead three of the six West opponents, including Central Michigan (24-20), Eastern Michigan (28-21) and Toledo (48-12). Ball State (15-34), Northern Illinois (8-20) and Western Michigan (17-31) all lead the Falcons.
