BGSU has qualified for the MAC Tournament for the seventh consecutive season and the ninth time in the 12-year history of the program ... prior to the current seven-year run, the Falcons had never made the tourney in back-to-back seasons ... BG enters the Toledo game with a record of 11-5-5 in MAC Tournament matches ... the Falcons, the 2004 and 2005 tournament champions, are 4-1-2 all-time in league tourney home matches after Sunday's win over Western Michigan ... BGSU now has a 7-1-1 record in the quarterfinal round through the years ... the Falcons enter Friday's match at Toledo with an overall record of 3-2-2 in semifinal-round action ... BGSU is 1-2-2 in league tournament championship games.
FALCONS IN THE QUARTERFINAL
The Falcons have advanced past the quarterfinals eight times in nine tries ... BGSU, as mentioned, is now 7-1-1 in quarterfinal-round play ... a loss to Toledo in 2006 marked the lone time in program history that the Falcons' season ended in the quarterfinal round ... BG is now 3-1-1 at home and 4-0-0 on the road in quarterfinal play (with three of those road victories coming vs. Eastern Michigan).
FALCONS IN THE SEMIFINAL
BGSU's game at Toledo will mark the Falcons' sixth trip to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament in the last seven years ... BG has advanced to the semis seven times in the nine-year tenure of Andy Richards and eight times in program history ... the eight trips is the most in MAC history (Ohio has made seven trips) ... BGSU enters Friday's match with an overall record of 3-2-2 in semifinal-round play ... that includes a 1-0-0 mark at home, a record of 0-1-1 on the road and a 2-1-1 slate in neutral-site games ... BGSU has advanced to the championship match in each of its last four semifinal trips, with a tie vs. Central Michigan in 2003 (BG advanced via penalty kicks), wins over Western Michigan in 2004 and Miami in '05 and another deadlock at Ball State last season.
FALCONS AND ROCKETS IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
BGSU is meeting Toledo in MAC Tournament play for the fourth consecutive season ... the Falcons are 0-1-2 against the Rockets in league tourney action to date ... BGSU and UT tied, 0-0, through regulation and two overtimes in the 2005 league tourney, before the Falcons advanced via penalty kicks ... in '06, the Rockets exacted a measure of revenge, with a 3-0 victory over the Falcons in the quarterfinal round ... each of those meetings took place at Cochrane Field ... then, last year, the teams met in the championship match in Muncie, Ind. ... after battling to a 2-2 tie through regulation and a pair of OT periods, the Rockets advanced via the PK route.
THAT WACKY BG-UT SERIES
In 15 series meetings between BGSU and Toledo through the years, the home team has won only twice ... the first such result came in the teams' first-ever meeting, in 1997 ... that game was held at the Glass Bowl ... the Falcons are 1-3-3 in home games vs. the Rockets - with six of the seven games having gone to overtime - but BG is 6-1-0 all-time in road games vs. the Midnight Blue and Gold, including a perfect 6-0-0 at UT's Scott Park, the site of Friday's match ... one match - last year's MAC Tournament championship - was played at a neutral site ... the Falcons lead the overall series by a 7-4-4 margin.
SOMETHING ALWAYS RIDING ON BG-UT GAME
It seems as if something is always on the line when BGSU meets Toledo ... sure, the importance of getting a win over your arch-rival school always exists ... but, the last eight meetings certainly have had a great deal at stake ... bear with us while we refresh your memory ...
• In 2004, the Falcons and Rockets met in the final regular-season game, and BG and UT entered that match in a tie for ninth place ... with the winner earning a trip to the MAC Tournament, and the loser seeing the season come to an end, the Falcons picked up a 3-0 victory at Scott Park (Oct. 28, 2004) ... that win put BG into the league tourney as the eighth and final seed, and the Falcons proceeded to win three games and the tournament.
• Exactly one year later (Oct. 28, 2005), BG and UT again met at Scott Park to close the regular season ... this time, the Falcons needed a win to clinch the first regular-season title in school history ... BGSU got that victory, by the slimmest of margins, 3-2, as Falcon goalie Ali Shingler was forced to make a save in the final seconds of the match.
• The teams met at Cochrane Field less than a week later (Nov. 1, 2005), in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament ... top-seeded BG and eighth-seeded UT battled through 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, before the Falcons advanced to the semifinal round via penalty kicks.
• In the final regular-season game of 2006, with BGSU needing a win to clinch a home berth for the league tourney quarterfinals, the Falcons and Rockets again waged a scoreless battle into overtime ... this time, however, a Brianne Eisenhard goal gave the Falcons a 1-0 win in the second OT period.
• Three days later (Oct. 29, 2006), though, the Rockets returned to Cochrane Field and exacted some revenge with a 3-0 win in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals ... that UT win snapped a four-game series unbeaten streak for the Falcons.
• In the 2007 regular-season meeting (Nov. 1), Meagan Moran scored a pair of late goals, giving BGSU a 2-1 road win and clinching a home berth for the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament ... Moran's two goals came just 1:21 apart, with the second goal coming with only 23 seconds left in regulation.
• The Falcons and Rockets met just 10 days later (Nov. 11) in the '07 MAC Tournament's championship match in Muncie, Ind. ... the teams battled rain, mud and a lightning delay of over an hour, and played to a 2-2 tie through double OT, before the Rockets advanced to the NCAA Championships via penalty kicks.
• The teams closed the '08 regular season with a meeting at Cochrane Field last week (Oct. 30) ... the Rockets had clinched the regular-season title, but the Falcons were still battling for a top-four finish and a home game in the tourney quarterfinals ... Megan Amann's second-half goal gave the Brown and Orange a 1-1 tie and gave BG the fourth seed for the tournament.
• Each of the last four MAC Tournament titles have gone to Northwest Ohio teams, with the Falcons and Rockets winning two apiece.
GREAT RECORD
The Falcons' 12-5-4 record is one of the best in school history ... the 2008 team's current winning percentage of .667 is second only to the 2005 team ... that BG squad was 14-6-1 through 21 games, for a .690 winning pct. ... this year's team has the fewest losses through 21 games ... in fact, the 2008 club will finish with the fewest losses in a season in school history.
OFFENSE? CHECK
The Falcons have scored a total of 38 goals this year, having easily topped the total for all of last season ... the 2007 club scored 28 goals in 22 matches ... the school record for goals in a season is 42, set by the 1998 team.
DEFENSE? CHECK
The BGSU defense, not to be outdone by the offense, is on a school-record pace ... the Falcons have allowed just 13 goals through 21 games, an average of only 0.67 gpg surrendered ... the school-record low is 1.30 gpg allowed, by both the 2005 and 2006 BG teams.
THE FALCONS ARE ...

• 42-1-1 in the last 44 games in which BGSU scored first (12-0-0 this season); and

WILL HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF?
The Falcons had their first back-to-back losses in exactly one year, falling at Central Michigan (Oct. 17) and Eastern Michigan (Oct. 19) ... BG had last suffered consecutive setbacks on Oct. 14 and 19 of last season ... after that Oct. 19 loss in 2007, the Brown and Orange went on a seven-match unbeaten streak to end the season, a streak that took BG all the way to the championship game of the MAC Tournament ... BGSU won four-straight games to end the regular season, then picked up an overtime win in the 2007 MAC Tournament ... the Falcons had a pair of ties in the next two rounds of the tourney, advancing past Ball State via penalty kicks in the semifinals before seeing Toledo advance through PKs in the MAC Tournament's championship match ... this year, BG has a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) since the setbacks at CMU and EMU.

A(NOTHER) WINNING RECORD
BGSU has put together several program-best streaks in terms of wins and winning percentage ... don't believe us? Here they are ...
• At 6-3-2, the Falcons have finished with a winning record in MAC play for just the fifth time in the 12-year history of the program ... BGSU has posted four-straight winning MAC records for the first time ever, after going 9-2-0 in league action in 2005, 7-4-0 in '06, and 6-5-0 a year ago ... BGSU's only other winning MAC mark came in 2002, when the Falcons finished at 7-4-1.
• The '08 Falcons finished among the top-four teams in the MAC standings for only the fifth time (fourth in 2002, first in 2005, tied for third in 2006, fourth last year) in school history, and the fourth-straight year.
• Overall, the Falcon have now posted five consecutive seasons of double-digit wins for the first time in school annals.
• And, BG will have four-straight records of at least .500 for the first time ever.
Andy Richards: MR. NOVEMBER
The Falcons have enjoyed more than their fair share of success in MAC Tournament action over the years under head coach Andy Richards ... Richards-coached teams are 10-4-5 in league tourney matches since he took the helm in 2000 ... the Falcons have advanced via PKs in four of the five ties, meaning BG has moved on in 14 of the 19 MAC Tournament matches under Richards ... 2007 marked Richards' fifth trip to the finals, the most of any coach in MAC history (Miami's Bobby Kramig has made four trips).
ANOTHER GAME, ANOTHER SHUTOUT
Sunday's win over Western Michigan marked the 14th shutout of the year for the BGSU defense, extending the school record ... the old record of 10 shutouts was set by the 2006 team.
TWENTY-FIVE MORE NOTES ON #25 (WELL, NOT QUITE 25)
Alexa Arsenault and the Falcon defense are putting together one of the top seasons in school history ... a few more notes on the redshirt sophomore 'keeper from Richmond Hill, Ontario ...
• Arsenault's shutout of Western Michigan was her 11th of the season, extending the school record for an individual ... Erika Flanders had set the record, with seven shutouts in 2002, and Ali Shingler matched that total in 2005.
• Arsenault now has 17 career shutouts, tying her for the school record ... she moved past Shingler (16 from 2001-05) and has matched the mark set by Flanders (17 from 1999-2002).
• Arsenault's 17 shutouts have come in just 34 career starts ... she has lowered her goals-against average to just 0.67 this season and 0.73 in her career.
• She had a GAA of only 0.61 in the 11 MAC games this season, and posted a GAA of only 0.42 at Cochrane Field this fall.
FALCONS ARE A 'TOUGH OUT' IN NOVEMBER
It has been well documented on these pages that the BGSU women's soccer program has enjoyed success in the MAC Tournament over the years ... here's one more stat to illustrate the Falcons' success when November rolls around ... entering this season, BGSU had played a total of 20 matches in the MAC Tournament, more than any other program in the conference ... that is an average of 2.5 matches played per tournament appearance - a pretty good ratio when considering that it takes three matches to win the tourney.
THE OPPONENT / THE SERIES
Toledo is 14-4-1 on the season, and the Rockets finished MAC play with a mark of 8-2-1 ... UT won the league's regular-season title and earned the top seed for the MAC Tournament ... the Rockets lost two of three games to begin the conference campaign, but have gone 8-0-1 since that time ... the tie with the Falcons last week (Oct. 30) snapped a seven-game winning streak ... Brianne Eisenhard and Corbie Yee scored BG's goals during scrimmage play in that game ... two years ago, the teams met twice in a four-day span at Cochrane ... Eisenhard's 'Golden Goal' gave the Falcons a 1-0 win in the regular-season meeting (Oct. 26, 2006), but the Rockets responded with a 3-0 victory in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals (Oct. 29, 2006) ... the home team has won only twice in the 15 series meetings ... seven of the 15 games - including six of the seven meetings at Cochrane Field - have gone to overtime.
TWO FALCONS EARN ACADEMIC HONORS
Kristin McDonald and Katie Stephenson have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team ... McDonald was named to the first team, while Stephenson earned second-team honors ... McDonald makes the team for the second consecutive year, having been named to the second team in '07 ... Stephenson was honored in her first year of eligibility ... both student-athletes maintain a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA, McDonald as a health science major and Stephenson as a finance major.
