Swimming and Diving Falcons Aim for Success at Ohio State Invitational

After a short three-week hiatus the BGSU swimming and diving team will travel to Columbus, Ohio this weekend (Dec. 5, 6, and 7) to compete in the Ohio State Invitational against 11 other schools at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Swimming against the Falcons will be Cleveland State, Minnesota State, University of Miami (FL.), Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. Falcon divers will compete against Cleveland, Minnesota, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Arizona, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina and Purdue.
Set-up much like the Olympic events and the NCAA Championships, the invitational will consist of preliminary races in the morning, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending the day with finals, starting at 5:00 p.m.
Breaking down the competition:
The Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0) come into the invitational with an undefeated season. The Buckeyes have triumphed over Kenyon, Cincinnati and Miami.
The Cleveland State Vikings (6-6) come into the competition with a lot of experience this season. They have losses to St. Francis, Green Bay, St. Bonaventure, Youngstown, and Ohio State but wins against Butler, Canisius, Niagara, Gannon, John Carroll and Notre Dame.
The Miami Hurricanes (8-4) enter the meet with substantial results thus far. Miami has recorded wins against Florida Gulf Coast, University of Maryland Baltimore, Florida International, Campbell, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, New Orleans, and Georgia Southern. The Hurricanes have fallen to Florida State, North Carolina State, Duke and Western Kentucky.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-3) has had almost an entire month off from meets. They come to the OSU Invitational with wins against Pittsburgh and Purdue while taking third out of four teams on the first day of the Debbie Pipher Memorial Invite and second of three teams on the second day of the invite.
The Penn State Nittany Lions (3-1-1) have produced wins against West Virginia, Richmond, and Florida State University with one loss against the University of Virginia. The Lions have also tied against Southern Methodist at 121.5.
The meet will kick off on Friday, Dec. 5 at 11:00 a.m. with the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, the 50-yard freestyle, and one-meter diving. Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will include a final in the 400-yard medley relay.
Saturday's preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m. The events for the day are the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and the three-meter diving. Finals are set to start at 5:00 p.m. with the addition of the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Sunday, the final day of the three-day invitational, will start at 11:00 a.m. with preliminaries in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, platform diving, and the 1,650-yard freestyle (final times). Finals start at 3:00 p.m., with a final race in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
