Women's Basketball to Face Toledo in Televised Contest
The Mid-American Conference has announced the Bowling Green State University women's basketball game at rival Toledo on February 2, 2008 is one of eight regular-season games that will be aired on either the FSN Ohio or Comcast Local stations ... the opening tip at Savage Hall has been changed from its original 4:30 p.m. time and is now set for 2:30 p.m. ... BGSU/UT will serve as the second of a featured double-header from Savage Hall ... the UT men will tip-off at noon in game one action ... also on deck for MAC women's basketball will be the live airing of a league-high 10 post-season tournament match-ups from Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland in mid-March ... providing the color commentary and in-game analysis will be Jeff Phelps and Robin Mueller throughout the 2007-08 syndicated package ... not is a majority of the squad's home games broadcasted via Toledo local station, BCSN, but the Orange and Brown made their first ever appearance on the Big Ten Network as they traveled to Indiana to face the Hoosiers on Sunday (Dec. 16) ... the February squall with the Rockets on FSN Ohio will mark the third network to broadcast a Falcon women's basketball game in 2007 ... head coach Curt Miller's teams have defused the Rockets on nine straight occasions.
East Meets West
With Ohio's win at Ball State, Western Michigan became the top ranking team in the MAC winning six of their last seven league games ... Saturday Kent State will match-up with Eastern Michigan on the road while Ohio will travel to Western Michigan in what could be the game of the week ... Miami will also travel west to face Central Michigan ... Sunday, Ball State will host Buffalo while Akron will take the trip to Northern Illinois ... with Akron's win over Toledo last week, Central Michigan is the lone team to not win a game in the last seven tries.
Prochaska's Code
Forget Da Vinci's Code, the newest craze in encoding has become Lauren Prochaska's 4-1-4 code ... beginning with the MAC opener, Prochaska has alternated between hitting four made three's and one three through seven straight MAC games ... when she knocks down four, BGSU is 2-2 ... when she sinks just one, BG has sunk two of three opponents.
Don't Hit the Panic Button Just Yet ...
Although the Falcons have suffered a trio of losses in the MAC, there is no need to assume their dominant reign over the league is ending anytime soon ... the Falcons are still:
• 34-3 in a road/neutral setting in MAC games since the start of the 2004-05 season ... through regular-season only road games they are 25-3 ... Kent State ('05), eastern Michigan ('05) and Ball State ('07) are the only three programs to beat BGSU in their home arena's during that time ... in the past 20 regular-season road games the Falcons are 19-1.
• 97-21 over the past 118 games ... in the MAC alone they are 48-7 in the regular season since the start of the 2004-05 season ... with the inclusion of MAC Tournament games, BGSU is 57-7 in the same time span.
B.E.L.I.E.V.E
When the Class of 2006 ended their first season with the Falcons BGSU was 21-10 overall and 11-5 in the MAC ... that squad went on to finish in a tie-second in the West division ... three of their losses came in Andreson Arena including a four OT heartbreaker versus Northern Illinois ... that squad won six straight before losing in the MAC Championship game 65-56 at the hands of Eastern Michigan ... since that season, BGSU has played in the MAC Championship game every year since.
Spreading the Wealth
In the past seven MAC games, BGSU has seen three or more players in double-digit figures on five occasions ... in fact, three or more Falcons have sunk 10-plus points 14 times this season ... they are 11-3 when accomplishing the feat ... Lauren Prochaska has posted double-digits in a team-high 19 games this season and the Falcons are 13-6 when she does so ... BG is 6-4 when she scores 15 or more ... Kate Achter has appeared on the boxscore with 10 or more 14 times while Lindsey Goldsberry and Tara Breske have done it seven times each ... against Hampton each of the four scored between 13-17 points ... each was perfect from the foul line that night account for 17 of the Falcons 21 FT ... Breske, Achter and Prochaska have posted simultaneous 10-plus scoring nights on three occasions ... BGSU is 2-1 in those three games ... two of which, Notre Dame and Akron, took place in Anderson Arena ... the St. Bonaventure win is the only time in which only one Falcon was in the DD figures (Kate Achter, 32) ... Tracy Pontius, Crystal Murdaugh, Jennifer Uhl, Sarah Clapper and Whitney Taylor have also notched a place in the double-digit club on at least one occasion this season.
MAC - Miller's Accomplished Conference
Since becoming a head coach in the Mid-American Conference, Curt Miller has won three regular season titles, three tournament titles and another three C-O-Y awards ... he is 70-33 all-time and has lost just seven league games in the past three years ... through those three-plus seasons, beginning with the current seniors' rookie season, he and the Falcons are 57-8 ... through that same timeline, only Eastern Michigan (44), Kent State (41) and Ball State (41) have won more than 40 league games [including post-season tournament contests] ... BG's 57 wins doubles almost every remaining program in that same period (Western Michigan, 31; Ohio, 31; Toledo, 26; Northern Illinois, 26; Miami, 22; Buffalo, 15; Central Michigan, 14; Akron, 10) ... in the past 40 regular season MAC contests, the Falcons are 36-4 dating back to a win over then MAC contender, Marshall on Feb. 23, 2005 ... Miller's biggest turn around came in 2003-04 when he took a 5-11 record from the previous season (2002-03) and rearranged it into an 11-5 MAC record ... in the past four seasons he has won 11 or more MAC games ... entering the 2007-08 season, Lindsay was the only current league coach to boast a better win percentage (1990-pres.; 219-81) ... Roller trailed Miller by a win and a loss (65-31; .677) at the conclusion of the 2006-07 season.
#2 + #3 = 81
Rookie guard Lauren Prochaska and junior guard Lindsey Goldsberry have combined for 81 made three's this season ... the pair account for 58.7 percent of the BGSU three-point output ... each has seen perfect nights from `downtown' on at least two separate occasions ... currently Goldsberry ranks as the eighth best three point shooter in the MAC with her .425 accuracy while Prochaska is fifth ... as Jan. 27, Prochaska also ranked sixth in the country with her 45.3 % three-point field goal percentage and 91st with her 2.2 made trey's per game ... together the two are 43.3% accurate (81-187) from dead-eye range ... either one or both has made a long shot in every game this season.
