Hartman Named MAC Thrower of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University junior Whitney Hartman had her best performances of the outdoor season, capturing the hammer throw crown and finishing sixth in the discus at the Miami Team Challenge this past weekend. For her efforts she was named Mid-American Conference thrower of the Week.
In the hammer throw she had a career-best toss of 181-04, which also qualified her for Regionals. Her throw was also the fourth longest in school history.
Her mark of 137-02 in the discus was good enough for sixth place.

Track Athlete of the Week
LaTalia Jones, Akron, So., Youngstown, Ohio/Chaney
Jones won the 100 meters with a time of 11.96. Later, Jones would win the 200 with a season-best time of 24.28. She additionally ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x100 (46.51) and 4x400 relay (4:08.99) teams.

Carly Bates, Bowling Green, So., Palatine, Ill./Palatine
Carly Bates captured the 800-meter crown this past weekend at the Miami Team Challenge with a time of 2:17.12.
Christine Sprehe, Buffalo, Boston, NY/Orchard Park
Sprehe finished fourth in the women's 800-meters in 2:17.40 at the Miami Invitational. Sprehe led for a good portion of the race and was outleaned at the finish line as the top five finishers all placed within .30 seconds of each other. She was also part of UB's 4x400m relay team which finished fifth in 4:07.12.
Kelly McClure, Central Michigan, Sr., Iron Mountain, Mich./Iron Mountain
McClure finished first in the steeplechase at the Sea Ray Relays with a time of 10:56.80.
Andrea Wheeler, Eastern Michigan, Sr., Suffolk, Va./Lakeland
Senior Andrea Wheeler competed at the Sea Ray Relays, where she finished 16th in the 100 hurdles among some very good competition. She set a personal best 14.02.
Margarita Pogorelov, Miami, So., Bat Yam, Israel
Her 11.85 time in the 100-meter dash is the fastest time in the MAC this season.
Francine Jennings, Toledo, Sr., Cleveland , OH/Rhodes
Jennings placed second in the 100-meter hurdles coming in at 14.85, a whole second behind the first place finisher from Michigan State. She also came in sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:09.18 just under five second slower than the first place finisher from Grand Valley State.
Danielle Brown, Western Michigan, Jr., Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central
Brown qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 400-meter hurdles and in the 4x400 relay. She came within .01 seconds of qualifying in the 100-meter hurdles.
Field Nominees
Niesha Kelly, Akron, So., Bedord, Ohio/St. Peter Chanal
First, won the long jump with a leap of 18-10 (5.74). On Saturday, completed the sweep by winning the triple jump with a distance of 37-3 (11.35).
Vanessa Roelofsen, Buffalo, Alma, Ontario/Norwell District SS
Roelofsen won the javelin event at the Miami Invitational with a throw of 149-10 (45.67m) as UB claimed the top two spots in the competition. She has already qualified for the NCAA East Regional meet in May after her season-best toss of 153-3 (46.72m) last month at the Seahawk Invitational.
Allison Jakubowski, Central Michigan, Jr., Casco, Mich./Anchor Bay
Jakubowski's took eight in the javelin with a throw of 131-6 at the Sea Ray relays.
Janice Keppler, Eastern Michigan, Jr., Medina, N.Y./ Medina
Junior Janice Keppler qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet for the second year in a row at the Sea Ray Relays. She cleared 14-07.50 to finish tenth.
Nicki Mitchell, Miami, So., Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest
Set season bests in the long and triple jump (Triple Jump; 37-2 1/2; first Long Jump; 18-0 ½).
Shari Harmon, Toledo, Fr., Temperance, MI/Bedford
Harmon had tied for second place in the pole vault with a jump of 3.55m, only .35m behind the first place finisher from Michigan State.
Kari Richards, Western Michigan, Sr., Fox Lake, Ill./Grant Community
Richards finished fourth place in the discus at the Sea Ray relays with at throw of 154-06.
