Falcons Seventh at MAC Championships Following Day Two

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's track team currently sits in seventh place at the 2008 Mid-American Conference Women's Track & Field Championships with 22 points following the second day of competition. The event is ongoing at Whittaker Track in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Akron leads the event with 96 points, followed by Buffalo (39), Ohio (34), Kent State (30), Central Michigan (26), Western Michigan (25), BGSU (22), Ball State (16), Eastern Michigan (15), Miami (6), Toledo (3) and Northern Illinois (0).
Bowling Green was led by Amanda Sefcik, TaKarra Dunning and Lyndi Springer on day two of the Championships.
Dunning finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 48-11, a new season-best for the junior from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Sefcik jumped 18-07 in the long jump to finish fifth. The jump was the second best for the senior.
Springer finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:17.00, 11 seconds faster then her previous-best this season of 11:28 set two weeks ago at the Toledo Invitational. Springer's seventh place finish earned the Orange and Brown two points. Barbara Powers finished just out of the point column in the same event, finishing ninth with a time of 11:27.38, also a season-best.
Carly Bates, who finished third in the 1500 meter prelims this afternoon will compete on Sunday in the finals. She ran a 4:38.58 in the event, a season-best time for her.
Saturday's action will begin at 10:30 a.m.
