Falcons Drop Two to the Bobcats

ATHENS, Ohio - The Falcons dropped their first double-header in Mid-American Conference play Friday afternoon (May 2) as they fell to the Ohio Bobcats, 8-0 and 3-2. The Falcons are now 15-22 and 12-5 in the MAC.
The Falcon's offense was led by senior Dawnjene DeLong and freshman Katelynn Boso each recording two hits on the day. DeLong now on a five game hitting streak had to extra base hits, leading off game one with a double down the right field line and crushing her fourth homer of the season over the left field wall in game two. Junior Hayley Wiemer also took one to the yard in game two blasting a homer over the right field wall, her ninth of the season.
Wiemer picked up her first loss of the season in league play on the mound for the Orange and Brown in game one now 12-5 overall and 10-1 in the MAC. Emily Gouge picked up the loss in game two falling to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in the MAC.
The Falcons look to bounce back as they return to action wrapping up the 2008 regular season with a two game series against Akron on Saturday (May 3) at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday (May 4) at 1:00 p.m.
Game One Against Ohio
The Falcon bats were kept quiet in game one only recording two hits. Senior Dawnjene DeLong led-off the Falcons with a game opening double down the right field line but the Orange and Brown weren't able to score.
The Bobcats got off to an early lead scoring one run in the bottom of the first off of two hits. Ohio came right back to extend their lead in the bottom of the second as they scored four more runs off of four hits and two Falcon errors.
Freshman Katelynn Boso recorded the only other hit for the Falcons as she recorded a two-out single to right field in the top of the fifth.
The Bobcats were able to score one run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth defeating the Falcons, 8-0.
Game Two Against Ohio
In game two of the double-header both teams were kept scoreless in the first three innings. The Falcons struck first as junior Hayley Wiemer cranked her ninth homer of the season over the right field wall to give the Falcons a 1-0. Wiemer is now only two homers shy of tying the BGSU single season record she set last season.
In the bottom of the fourth the Bobcats were able to score two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Neither team was able to score in the fifth inning despite lead-off singles for both the Falcons and the Bobcats. However, in the top of the sixth Dawnjene DeLong crushed her fourth long ball of the season over the left field wall to tie the game up, 2-2.
The Falcons held the Bobcats in the bottom of the sixth, but weren't able to score any runs in the top of the seventh. With the game all tied up 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh the Bobcats got a lead-off single. The Falcons battled back to get the next two batters but they weren't able to get the last out before the Bobcats drove home the winning run sneaking by the Falcons, 3-2.
