Hockey Announces 2008-09 Schedule

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey team and head coach Scott Paluch announced the team's 2008-09 season schedule on Monday afternoon (June 16). Highlighting the slate will be 14 games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season and 19 total games against teams that sported winning records.
Included in those games will be a road contest at defending NCAA National Champion Boston College (Oct. 17) and two home-and-home weekends against National Runner-Up Notre Dame (Nov. 21-22; Dec 12-13). Other notable dates include a Jan. 16-17 home-and-home series with defending Central Collegiate Hockey Association Champion Michigan and a Feb. 20 and 21st home-and-home series with 2006-07 National Champion Michigan State.
The Falcons will play a total of 20 regular-season home games at the BGSU Ice Arena, including six non-conference contests and 14 CCHA contests.
BG will host Wilfred Laurier from Waterloo, Ontario in exhibition play on Oct. 4 to open the new campaign, and then will open its' regular-season schedule with an Oct. 10 and 11th home weekend with RIT and Niagara. They will then hit the road for a non-conference weekend at Boston College and Providence (Oct. 17-18), just before beginning CCHA play on Oct. 24-25 at Alaska.
The Falcons CCHA home opener will take place on Halloween (Oct. 31) when they entertain rival-Nebraska-Omaha in the first of two games at the Ice Arena. Other first half home dates will include: Northern Michigan (Nov. 14-15), Notre Dame (Nov. 22; Dec. 12) and a two-game non-conference series with Minnesota State (Nov. 28-29).
The Falcons will conclude their non-conference schedule with two home contests against Falcon-alum George Roll's Clarkson Golden Knights on Dec. 19-20, in yet another set of games against a 2008 NCAA participant.
First half road games will include trips to Lake Superior State (Nov. 7-8) and Notre Dame (Nov. 21; Dec. 13).
BG will open its' post-Christmas slate with a two-game home series against in-state rival Ohio State (Jan. 9-10), before facing the Maize and Blue of Michigan in a home-and-homer series beginning on Jan. 16 at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Other home contests in the second half will include Lake Superior State (Jan. 23-24), Ferris State (Feb. 13-14) and Michigan State (Feb. 21). On the visiting side, the Falcons will visit CCHA Runner-Up Miami (Jan. 30-31), Northern Michigan (Feb. 6-7), and Michigan State (Feb. 20), prior to closing out the 2008-09 regular-season schedule at Western Michigan (Feb. 27-28).
This season's CCHA First Round playoff match-ups will take place Mar. 6-8, while the second round will run from Mar. 13-15 at the home arenas of the higher seed. The final four teams will advance to Joe Louis Arena for the CCHA Finals on Mar. 20-21, just prior to the first round of the NCAA Tournament that will kick-off on Mar. 27th.
