Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW head women's basketball coach Chris Paul has named former Bowling Green State University star Ali Mann as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season.
Mann is a Chelsea, Michigan, native and graduated from Bowling Green with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management in May of 2007. Following her graduation, she played professionally in both Luxembourg and Portugal.
"We are thrilled to have Ali join our coaching staff here at IPFW," said Paul. "She brings the knowledge and experience of a winner, and will be a huge asset to our program."
A four-year starter and two-year team captain for BGSU, Mann helped the Falcons compile an overall four-year team record of 103-25, including three Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season titles, three MAC Tournament titles with a subsequent three NCAA Tournament berths.
During her senior year, she helped lead the Falcons with NCAA Tournament victories over Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt, giving MAC women's basketball its first-ever "Sweet 16" appearance.
She finished her career with her name littered across the BGSU record book, including finishing second in career points (1,825) and third in career rebounds (911). She also has the most free throws made (482) and attempted (677), the second most field goals made (619) and games started (126) and the third highest three-point field goal percentage (.399) in Bowling Green's 35 years of women's basketball. She is also one of just three players in BGSU history to earn Academic All-MAC honors in three consecutive seasons.
She is just the sixth player in MAC history to have been named the league's Freshman of the Year (2003-04), Tournament Most Valuable Player (2005-06) and League Player of the Year (2006-07) during their career. She was twice named to the All-MAC First Team (2005-06 and 2006-07), once to the second team (2004-05) and once to the honorable mention squad (2003-04). Three times she was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team (2003-04, 2005-06 and 2006-07) and during her freshman year she was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team and to the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Classic All-Tournament Team.
Mann attended Chelsea High School and was a three-time all-conference member for the Bulldogs. She also lettered twice in softball, playing first base and helping the squad to a pair of State Championships.
