Falcons Swing Into 2008 Preseason

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team started off the 2008 season as they reported for preseason camp on Sunday (Aug. 10) for several organizational meetings. The team swung into full gear as they began practices Monday (Aug. 11). Head Coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons are coming off of a 21-10 overall record and 12-4 record in the Mid-American Conference, their fourth consecutive winning season and second straight season of 20-plus wins.
Coach Van De Walle enters her 26th season at the helm of the Falcons with an overall record of 462-313 (.596), the winningest mentor in conference history. Van De Walle has coached the Orange and Brown to 17 winning seasons in the last 21 years including 12 seasons of 20-plus wins.
The Falcons coaching staff returns assistant coach Mark Hardaway for his seventh season and assistant coach Rob Frost for his second season. Dale Hartzell will also be with the Falcons for his second but will be entering the role of administrative assistant/statistician for the Falcons along with the addition of Brian White in his first season as a volunteer coach.
The Falcons return eight veterans, including four All-MAC starters Kendra Halm, Meghan Mohr, Corey Domek and Sam Fish as well as last season's libero Chelsey Meek. Other returnees include Kaitlin Jackson, Shari Luther and Alex Zlabis. The Falcons have added six fresh faces to the team including transfer Noelle Spitler and freshmen Louise Facca, Susie Isphording, Emily Kauth, Lauren Mimzgalski and Madison Nitta.
The Falcons will open the 2008 season at the Florida State Invitational where they will face three Florida teams for the first time in program history. The first set of the season will pit the Falcons against the Stetson Hatters at 2:00 p.m on Friday (Aug. 29). .
