CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University junior Colleen Kordan has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Sept. 15). Kordan earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Kordan shares this week's award with Akron's Jordan Baranowski. Kordan is the second BGSU player in as many weeks to be recognized by the conference office, as redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault was last week's (Sept. 8) MAC Player of the Week.
Kordan, a native of Strongsville, Ohio (Strongsville HS), scored a goal in each of BGSU's two weekend matches, and anchored a Falcon defense that recorded a pair of shutouts. BGSU outscored the opponents, 10-0, on the weekend.
Kordan scored her first collegiate goal in Friday's (Sept. 12) 7-0 win over Tennessee Tech at Cochrane Field, converting a penalty kick. She also scored on a PK in Sunday's (Sept. 14) win over Marshall, with that goal holding up as the game winner, the first of her career.
Kordan and the BGSU defense also recorded the Falcons' third and fourth shutouts of the season to date. After beginning the year with a record of 0-2-1, BG is now 3-0-1 over the last four games, having outscored the opposition by a 15-1 count in those four matches.
The Falcons, now 3-2-2 overall, close out a three-game homestand with a Friday (Sept. 19) match vs. Detroit. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field. Then, BGSU will conclude the non-conference portion of the 2008 schedule with a Sunday (Sept. 21) match at Xavier.
