BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Track and Field program will add Jody Stewart as its new assistant coach in charge of the Falcon sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers, Falcon head coach Cami Wells announced on Wednesday (Sept. 17). Stewart will replace Clive Roberts, who accepted a similar position at the University of Iowa earlier in the month. Stewart will officially begin his duties with the Falcon track staff on Friday (Sept. 19).
"Jody brings a great mix of enthusiasm, commitment and knowledge to the position," said Wells. "I feel that he is the right coach at the right time to guide our sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers to a higher level of achievement both in the classroom and in competition."
Stewart comes to BG after spending a season with Northwood University in Michigan, where he also served as an assistant track coach in charge of the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.
During the 2007-08 season with the Timberwolves, Stewart helped lead the men's track team to the school's second highest point total in program history, as well as its second highest finish during the outdoor season.
Before coaching at Northwood, Stewart was a volunteer coach at his alma mater, Ashland University. At Ashland, he spent time working with sprinters, hurdlers and relays. There he assisted in the development of an NCAA hurdle All-American, three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions and three All-GLIAC relay teams.
In his collegiate career at Ashland, Stewart excelled as a sprinter, as he earned numerous awards and honors. He was a four time All-American, claimed four GLIAC Championships and was the GLIAC Indoor Most Valuable Player in 2003. Stewart also earned Academic All-American status four times and Academic All-GLIAC six times.
A 2006 graduate of Ashland, Stewart earned his bachelor's degree in health education and his master's degree in sports management from Cleveland State in 2008. He also holds a Level I Certification from the USA Track and Field. He and his wife, Amber, will reside in Bowling Green.
