BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey program and head coach Scott Paluch has announced that Frank Novoch (NO-vock) has been hired as the team's new assistant coach. The announcement from Paluch came Tuesday, as Novock's hire will complete the Falcon coaching staff for the upcoming 2008-09 season, as he replaces former assistant coach Todd Reirden, who was named an assistant coach for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Aug. 18.
Novock, who previously served as an assistant coach at Wayne State for two seasons under former Falcon assistant coach Bill Wilkinson, began his duties earlier in the week.
"We are very pleased to have Frank [Novock] join our staff," said Paluch. "He is a very bright, young coach who brings a tremendous work ethic with him and a great passion for coaching hockey. He did an outstanding job in his time at Wayne State and we look forward to having him be a part of our staff in the upcoming season."
Novock is no stranger to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, as he spent his four-year collegiate career (1995-99) playing for Wilkinson at Western Michigan University.
In his four years with the Broncos, Novock totaled 91 points (43g, 48a) in 149 career games. He earned the team's Rob Hodge Most Valuable Player award during his junior season, as he led the Broncos with 14 goals and 29 points. In 1998-99, he donned the captain's "C" as a senior, as he led the team with 16 assists on his way to earning the KOHA "Grinder" Award for Perseverance.
Following his college days at WMU, Novock went on to play four years of professional hockey in the ECHL. He played his first two seasons with the Richmond Renegades, where he tallied 51 points (23g, 28a) in over 70 games as a rookie. He followed that up with a 35-point season in his second year, just before moving on to the Roanoke Express for his final two seasons. In two years with the Express, he amassed 87 points (41g, 46a) in 134 games.
Novock began his coaching career in 2004-05 at Wayne State, serving as a volunteer assistant coach for two seasons, prior to becoming a full-time assistant for the 2006-07 campaign.
"It's an absolute honor to be here at Bowling Green and I'm very grateful for this opportunity that coach [Scott] Paluch has given me," said Novock. "I'm very excited to be back in the CCHA and to be a part of a program that has this much history. It's an up and coming program with all the success they had here last season I'm looking forward to coming in and being a part of that."
A native of Detroit, Mich., Novock graduated from WMU in 1999. He and his wife, Stacie, and two sons (Hunter-3 and Ryder-1) reside in Rockwood, Mich.
