Shari Luther Named MAC East Offensive Player Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green senior middle Shari Luther has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, garnering the award for the second time this season. Luther led the team to a weekend split of its league matches.
Luther entered the week hitting a league-best .373 on the season and improved upon that mark by hitting .484 against Ball State and .429 against Toledo. In helping the Falcons overcome a two-set deficit to defeat Ball State, Luther had 16 kills with just one error in 31 swings to go with six blocks and a pair of digs. Bowling Green dropped the first two sets 27-25, 25-18 but fought back to win the final three 25-22, 25-23, 15-9. It was the first time in 2009 that Bowling Green had fought back from a two-set deficit to win.
Bowling Green lost to Toledo in four sets the next day but Luther again excelled, finishing with 13 kills and just one error in 28 swings. She added three blocks, five digs and two aces in that match.
Luther also received the MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week award on Aug. 31 after guiding the Falcons to a 4-0 weekend at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Tournament.
