With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-2 on the season, and BGSU has won five consecutive games. The Titans fall to 1-6.
Prochaska scored a game-high 25 points in the win, with 13 points in the first half and 12 in the second. Senior Tara Breske joined Prochaska in double figures, with 10 points off the bench.
Kassandra Hooten led the hosts with 12 points, while Brigid Mulroy had 10.
BGSU took the lead for good when junior Jen Uhl hit a three-point field goal with 2:20 gone, giving the visitors a 7-6 lead. But, the Falcons couldn't shake the Titans.
The Falcons' first double-digit lead came on a Prochaska three-pointer with 2:36 left in the half, but the hosts scored the final five points of the half to cut the lead to eight, 32-24, at the intermission.
A Prochaska three-point play opened the second-half scoring, moving the lead back into double digits, but the margin stayed between nine and 13 points until less than five minutes remained in the contest. After UDM had cut BG's lead to nine on an 'and-one' layup and free throw from Yar Shayok, the Falcons proceeded to go on a 15-0 run to take a 64-40 lead with just 1:22 remaining.
BGSU held the Titans without a field goal over the game's final 6:17, and forced the home team to go 0-for-9 from the floor during that time.
The Falcons held Detroit to just a 29.4 percent effort from the field, including a 6-of-25 (.240) rate in the second half. And, BGSU held a 28-15 rebounding margin in the final 20 minutes of play, outrebounding the hosts by a 42-34 margin for the game.
The game started off at a fast pace, as the teams played the first 3:09 without a whistle. By that point, the Falcons led by that 7-6 score.
Junior Maggie Hennegan had scored the game's first points, on a jumper just 17 seconds in, but UDM's Jalesa Jones came righit back with a layup, and the Titans took the lead on a Mulroy jumper. After the teams traded hoops, Uhl hit her triple to give the Falcons the lead for good, and Prochaska drained a trey from almost the exact spot, with her left-elbow triple extending the margin to 10-6.
A pair of Hooten layups, sandwiched around Hennegan's layup off a Breske feed, made it a two-point game. But, senior Tamika Nurse's three-point try rattled around the rim before finally dropping through, giving the Falcons a 15-10 advantage at the game's second media timeout.
Out of that break, Hooten hit a shot from beyond the arc, but Breske then would score back-to-back baskets, the second on a nifty drive and finger-roll layup, and BG's lead was 19-15 midway through the half.
But, the Titans battled back, and were within two points with under eight minutes left in the half. Prochaska responded with a drive through the paint and an 'and-one' layup with 7:24 on the clock. After a UDM offensive foul, sophomore Jessica Slagle hit a jumper, giving the Falcons five unanswered points and a 24-17 lead.
Demeisha Fambro scored at the 4:40 mark, but Slagle knocked down a triple, and Prochaska's trey (off of a kick-out from classmate Chelsea Albert) with 2:36 left gave BG a 30-19 lead. Prochaska converted a jumper just over a minute later to conclude an 8-0 run. But, Shayok made two free throws, and Mulroy nailed a three-pointer with two seconds left in the half.
Neither team would score for over a minute and a half in the second period, before Prochaska hit an unorthodox-looking layup while being fouled. She made the ensuing free throw, and baskets by Hennegan and Breske gave BG a 13-point lead, 39-26, with 14:49 left in the game. Hennegan had three rebounds within the first 70 seconds of the half, and grabbed another board with less than three minutes elapsed.
That Breske jumper would be the first of six consecutive BG points for the senior co-captain, as she hit a putback, made a jumper off a feed from junior Tracy Pontius and laid the ball in after an entry pass from Hennegan. But, in between those hoops, the Titans were scoring as well. Hooten hit a second-chance jumper, and Lauren Allen drained a pair of three-pointers 100 seconds apart. Her second triple cut the lead to single digits, 43-34, with 12:11 on the clock.
But, the Falcons got a pair of free throws from Pontius, and Hennegan muscled her way inside for a tough offensive rebound, laying the ball back up and in while being knocked to the ground. That basket, with 9:21 left, gave the Falcons a 47-34 advantage.
UDM had a pair of three-point plays around a Uhl layup, and cut that BG lead into single digits on Shayok's layup and free throw at the 6:17 mark. But, the Falcons then went on that aforementioned 15-0 run.
Prochaska would score nine points during that run, including the first seven. After Shayok's three-point play, Prochaska went right at the Detroit post player, hitting a layup while drawing a foul from Shayok. Prochaska made the free throw, then hit two more charity tosses less than a minute later. When Prochaska took Nurse's pass and knocked down a jumper with 4:32 left, the Falcons had a 56-40 advantage and were on their way to the win.
The Falcons shot .411 from the field on the night, and BG went 13-of-15 (.867) from the free-throw line. Prochaska went 8-of-16 from the floor and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the stripe.
Hennegan had eight points and six rebounds, while Uhl had seven points and a game-high eight boards. Slagle scored five points for the Brown and Orange, while Pontius, held to four points in the game, had seven rebounds to tie her career high.
Nurse dished out a game-high five assists, while Pontius and Slagle each had three steals in the win.
Hennegan and Breske combined to go 9-of-15 from the field in the game.
Allen scored eight points for the Titans, while Shayok added five. Shayok, who entered the game averaging a double-double on the season, went just 1-for-9 from the floor but had seven rebounds to tie Hooten for team honors.
BGSU now prepares for a Saturday (Dec. 12) matchup with undefeated Saint Bonaventure. The Falcons (6-2) and Bonnies (9-0) will meet in a 1:30 p.m. tip at SBU's Reilly Center.
