CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's basketball sophomore Lauren Prochaska has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Feb. 16). Prochaska earns the honor for the fifth time this season, and the fifth time in her Falcon career.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), averaged 28.0 points per game as the Falcons posted a pair of home victories to move to a perfect 11-0 in the MAC. The Brown and Orange picked up wins over Toledo, 70-53, and Central Michigan, 94-79.
In Sunday's (Feb. 15) CMU game, the stellar soph shattered the school scoring record, with 43 points. That total broke the BG record by eight points and fell just one point shy of matching the MAC record. Prochaska was 14-of-18 from the field, 5-for-8 from three-point land and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line, adding seven rebounds and five assists.
The win over the Chippewas was BG's 22nd in a row, a new school record, and allowed the Falcons to clinch the East Division's outright title.
Three days earlier (Feb. 12), Prochaska had scored 13 points and added a pair of assists in the Falcons' win over the arch-rival Rockets.
On the week, she shot 63.0 percent from the field, making 17 of her 27 shots. She shot 50.0% (8-for-16) from long distance and 93.8% (15-for-16) from the free-throw line. Her lone miss from the charity stripe broke a streak of 45 consecutive free throws made.
On the season, Prochaska is averaging 18.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, leading the team in the former and ranking second in the latter. She has made 60 three-pointers, and is 110-of-116 (94.8%) from the free-throw line. In MAC games, Prochaska has 20.7 ppg and 5.6 rpg.
Prochaska earned this week's MAC P-O-W honor for the East Division. Eastern Michigan's Cassie Schrock earned the West Division honor.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 22-2 on the season and 11-0 in MAC play, begin the second round-robin swing through the East Division this weekend. BGSU will head to Akron for a Saturday (Feb. 21) game vs. the Zips, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Rhodes Arena.
