BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - As the third night of the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving finals came to a close, the Orange and Brown squad had set two new top BGSU records and broke five individual personal bests. Sophomore Sarah Burston set the new record in her sixth place finish in the preliminary round of the 100-yard butterfly, swimming in at 54.67; beating the previous 2008 record of 55.41. Freshman, Vicky Yu also showed a strong performance in the 400-yard IM as she raced in for a 12th place finish while also setting a new personal best time of 4:25.69.
During the 100-yard butterfly finals, Yu swam into a fifth place finish, also in 54.67. The record, however, goes to Burston as she was the first to swim the time. In the same race, Liz Harper took 14th, also setting a new personal best.
Continuing the record breaking streak was the sixth place 400-yard medley relay team of Sami Jordan, Amanda Rom, Burston and Meg Richardson, who swam in at 3:45.15. In their sixth place finish, the team shed three seconds off the previous record set in 2008.
Jordan and Yee, both seniors, each performed to their highest potential in the 100-yard backstroke. Jordan, who was also a member of the record-breaking 400-yard relay, took fourth and set a new personal best time of 55.77; only four-tenths of a second off of breaking Yee's top record in the event, set at the 2008 MACs. Yee was right behind Jordan, taking fifth with a time of 56.09.
In addition to being on the record-breaking relay, Richardson also had a strong performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, also setting a new personal best. Richardson took 16th in the race but dropped three seconds off her previous best time of 1:07.37, making her new personal best 1:04.26.
A new pool record was set in the 200-yard freestyle by Eastern Michigan University's Alissa Ricard. Ricard swam the race in 1:46. 23.
